• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What do I do?

I have had thoughts telling me that if I do this or that (like calling to get my apartment fixed) then I would lose my salvation or trade it in.

Sometimes, because of these thoughts I forego doing things altogether. But once in a while, I go ahead and do those actions that these thoughts forbid.

Does God count these things against me? Would God condemn me?

BTW. Has any of you heard of Responsibility Tranference Therapy? Does it work?

I would definitely write all this off as OCD and NO you are most definitely not condemned for it. What is wrong with calling to get your apartment fixed?? And how could that possible make you condemned if you do?? Believe me, I used to worry about every little thing that I did but you must learn that you are living with an illness (OCD) and its going to make things not make sense to you sometimes. So if your apartment needs to be fixed...go ahead and call, you are going to be absolutely fine hun :)

The nature of obsessions or obsessive thoughts is that they are aspects of a person's thoughts that are felt to be repugnant, distressing, ...

If you have OCD you will begin to give these thoughts a lot of value, which will make the OCD worse. We all get ego dustonic thoughts.. those without OCD are able to say that they are just thoughts. We do not have full control of our brain chemlistry anymore than we have full control over whether we develop diabetes if we havea predisposition to it,
Hope that helps,
blessings

Thank you both for your answers. It's just so hard to deal with all these thoughts since I have trouble telling if they are real or not or if God is taking them seriously (from His perspective).

Just now I have the fear that using my debit card would cost me salvation. Ecause of a thought/feeling that I had about paying for a meal. I tell myself that it can't be real, but I still worry.

This may even ruin the day for me.

The best thing to try is what is most likely to work. If you have an infection we know that antibiotics work well. The medication used for OCD does not cure it. If you read the researc, the medication supports the person not falling into a deper depression. The medication for oCD rarely cures the disorder. The reserache clearly states that therapy is the first line of intervention for oCD.85% of people who do E/RP get better. The percentage that do not get better do not follow what the therapist is asking them to do.
Only ignorance gets in the way of getting good help. God gives us science for a reason
