Since world hunger is a major concern.
The majority of Americans are overweight
according to the news media (I'd have to
research exact statistics), and gluttony
is considered a sin within Christianity
as well as other spiritual beliefs.

So, what is the Christian thought
on 'All you can eat buffets'?

Why the blind acceptance of consuming more
than is needed?

Where are the protestors?

When I worked in the restraunt industry
while in college, I found Sunday afternoons
to be the worst & busiest times.

An interesting and challenging question. To a certain extent, obesity and hunger are, despite the apparent connection, mostly unrelated. The reason people go hungry isn't that someone else ate their food; it's mostly a lack of distribution networks and resources to get food to them. It's not unheard of for people to starve in one city while another fairly nearby has rotting food.

That said, I think gluttony is a serious problem, and one that's very easy to overlook.

Well, as someone who is struggling along on Atkins, for $5.56 I can eat meat with a side order of meat and a few veggies for dessert with unsweetened iced tea. Best deal going!

Seriously, though, portion size has been a problem for the past 20 years beginning with the horrible food pyramid the US govt. put out. More and larger portions of pasta, bread, etc. And still hungry! :(

And it doesn't necessarily have to do with food. :) edited to add.. I see someone else already pointed that out. I really should read through an entire thread before I post.

The United States consumes 3/4 of the worlds food supply.
I read that somewhere, can't remember (before references are
demanded). Yet I hazard a guess it is close.

No, noone is starving because a family gourges itself at Ryan's
on buffet night...

However, when the United States consumes the majority of the
worlds food supply (if that statement is true), that would
definately be a contributing factor to world hunger.

So......

I see so much bickering over who's hell bound, who's Christian,
who's wrong, inter-denominational bickering...blahh...blahhh...blahhh....

I've yet to see any concern for those who go hungry in our world on this forum.

I personally don't have a problem with all you can eat buffets, The problem lies with those that don't have the self controll to stop going back for 3rds, 4ths, and 5ths.
I can go to a buffet and get a well balanced meal for a very good value, I just don't try to shove a entire weeks worth of food down my mouth is one visit. I do think it is probably best for those that struggle from the self destructing sin of gluttony to avoid
them all together, the temptation might be too great for them to resist. It would be very easy for someone who is struggling with the fat lifestyle to not be able to resist
all that food around them.

Actually, what I have read about the world's food supply is that the US *produces* 75% of the world supply rather than consuming it... I will have to see if I can find a study!

I love all you can eat buffets.

My question is, why is there a flag icon for Antarctica?

You'll find the fattest people in America eating at one of two places; a buffet restaurant or McDonalds. I don't see either as morally wrong. You have every right to eat yourself into a fat, ugly, unhealthy pig.

I'm usually nice to everyone, but I have had some dealings with fat people that irritate me.

I have thoroughly embarrassed my wife at times, the latest was when I called out to some grossly overweight female waddling across a McDonalds parking lot with burger in hand; "drop the burger and step away from the restaurant".

My kids have been known to say, whilst sitting at a table in a buffet restaurant, "drop the plate and step away from the buffet table" in reference to some plumpy rumpy going up for another round... I wonder where they get that from? :holy:
