• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

After about 5 years of seeing many different doctors, I have been diagnosed with Multiple Systems Atrophy (MSA). Is a progressive, neurological, degenerative disease that is fairly rare. I've had to stop working, can no longer drive, fall down a lot, have incontinence, and tremors and can no longer get in out of bed on my own. MSA has no cure or treatment and I've been given a life expectancy of 5 years.

I know about life expectancy. My parents said my doctor gave me 10 and I was four so I guess that means I have one year left. I feel great. I guess what I mean is, do not let that part get you down! It is a life expectancy and I read people can fall short or live longer. So keep your chin up! ^^

I will say prayers for you!

I don't know if I would really call it a disability (though it did get me out of high school PE, yay) but I have seen other people mention things about feet turning in and out and such so I figured why not? I have shallow hip sockets which cause my feet to turn out a bit. Any time anyone would ask why I would say it was indicative of the fact that I am the best ever at everything! :p It also allows me to turn one foot foot completely around while leaving the other facing front, thereby making them point in different directions. Told you, best ever. :p

Also I have had several bouts with bronchitis and pneumonia so I have some fun fun, scarred up lungs and do poorly in high elevations.

Double above-knee amputee. Motorcycle accident. Have prosthetics but haven't been able to stand up straight with them because of the tendons in my upper thighs tightening. Not enough strength in the arms to hold me up, but I can take a couple of steps before I wear out. With God's strength I believe that I could overcome this disability, but I'm not sure if I am more of a blessing to others just the way that I am. In a dream, I thought that I was awoken by a whispering voice telling me to get up and do it...I had been dreaming of walking on my prosthetics. If it is my laziness toward the physical part or my indifference toward the disability part, perhaps you could pray for me. As for me, I am as happy as grasshopper in the spring just the way that I am...I think that I have an amazing outlook and that Jesus is here for me. I welcome being a part of a group like this one that has overcome obstacles of this world and maintained a love for our God who is all powerful and worthy. ♥

I have a thus-far undiagnosed neuropathy and myopathy that has me chair-bound. My drs have no clue what is wrong with me, but it started over a year ago. I have completely lost the use of my right leg, and my left leg is on the way out. There are a lot of theories, and there have been a lot of tests, but so far, nothing is for sure.

I also have bipolar disorder. I was diagnosed in 1991 and have been stabilized on meds for several years, PTL. But in the first few years, it was insanity.

I like your outlook. I, too, believe that without the accident taking my legs that I would not be anywhere as close to God as I am now...Keep on keeping on and loving the Lord....Bless you. God loves you. Jesus died for you. The path you are on is the path set forth before the beginning of time, and you are right where you need to be. Amen.

I do not have any physical disability although I have an anxiety disorder. However, I do maintain a blog site called disabledslimmingguide.com, which attempts to help disabled people slim down and keep themselves fit through exercise and other methods. You may want to visit it as well by going to the link I have posted above. Thank you all

I have mild to moderate cerebral palsy Like it is noticeable, as in public I am usually confided to a wheelchair. However, I can walk short distances, as in around the house at church ECT. As well, as you can see by the fact I am typing this thread my mental state is (in terms of being able to function) is normal. I also have a mild speech problem related to cerebral palsy and seizures.

Wow, 12 pgs of posts by the time i read this, and not one who mentions what I have.
So, here it is:
CRPS/RSD (constant burning pain - listed as the MOST painful of chronic conditions on the megil pain index)
Addison's Disease (also known as adrenal insufficiency - don't produce any cortisone which is what regulates your heart)
Diabetes (take insulin as needed)
Barrotts Esophagus (pre-cancer of the esophagus due to the meds for addisons disease)
COPD/Asthma

But.... With Gods help I get thru each day.

I have bad arthritis such that my knees give way - often in a lot of pain and sometimes they just lock as I am walking. I use a cane. Also arthritis in feet which are always painful, and arthritis in hands. Some mornings I just don't know how to keep going but somehow or other I always do.
