I can't speak for all baptists as some things will differ slightly w/ different baptists.. but this is shows the foundational beliefs of my church (and many other baptists too).

From a very breif and very lacking study of denominations I think the main breaking point for Baptists leaving the Methodist movement was salvation by grace along and not works. The second would be the ability not to loss your salvation with too much sin. Like I said my study of denominations and where they came from is somewhat lacking.

This is what our church has written on this.

What We Believe

About the Bible ...
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God; that the sixty-six books, as originally written were verbally inspired by the Spirit of God who moved men to write the very words of Scripture. We believe the Bible is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice.

About God ...
We believe in one God who exists in three equal persons, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe in the absolute deity of Jesus Christ, the Second person of the Trinity who became flesh to reveal God to mankind and to die on the cross as Saviour of the lost world. We believe that he rose from the dead and lives today.

About Salvation ...
We believe that salvation is by the grace of God; that the blood of Jesus Christ shed on the cross for us paid the full penalty for our sins and provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of God. Salvation occurs when an individual places his faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin.

About the Church ...
We believe that the church is the body of Christ, with Jesus Christ at the head. The members of this church are those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ for salvation. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving Him completely and others sacrificially.
