John 19:14 clearly states that Jesus was before Pilates by the 6th hour, and the synoptics states that Jesus was crucified by the 3rd hour, being a darkness from the 6th to the 9th when he "died".

Romans, greeks and Hebrew did count the hours from sunrise. Any enciclopedia and any history teacher can tell you. If you dont believe it, read Matthew 20 were clearly the hours are count from sunset.

Jesus was before Pilates by 12 noon, crucified by 9am, the darkness was from 12 noon to 3pm. Jesus "died" by 3pm and was buried before sunset

from wokipedia:
The Romans also used a 12-hour clock: daylight was divided into 12 equal hours (of, thus, varying length throughout the year) and the night was divided into four watches. The Romans numbered the morning hours originally in reverse. For example, "3 a.m." or "3 hours ante meridiem" meant "three hours before noon", compared to the modern usage of "three hours into the first 12-hour period of the day"

NOTE: "The Romans also" does not mean that the Romans have two systems. It refers to Mesopotamia, Egypt and Roman also.

I'm afraid I don't understand. Please explain what your objection is and why you say there has to be 15 hours between 6:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

In Christ,
Pilgrimer

Pilgrimer I must apologize for not answering your question before but Goinheix always seems to get in the way of reasonable discussion.

If Jesus was hanging on the cross from the 3rd hour to the 6th hour when it went dark. there must be at least 12 hours between the 6th hour when Pilate offered to release Jesus and the 6th hour when darkness fell. Add another 3 hours of darkness and you have at least 15 hours.

If both 6th hours were in the morning then then there would be at least 24 + 3 = 27 hours between the 6th hour when Pilate offered to release Jesus and the 9th hour when Jesus died.

This has nothing to do with the method used for counting the hours of the day as long as all the times given are using the same conventions.

How do you get so lost and confused.
jesus was before pilates by the 6th hour. that is noon in the hebrew system and in the roman system
Jesus was crucified in the 3rd hour. that is midmorning in both systems
Darknes started at the 5th hour. that is noon for everybody
darknes enden by 9th hour and Jesus died. romans and hebrew system is midafternoon.
Jesus was put in the sepulcre before dark, before the sabbath started. the sabbath started by sunset. Jesus died by midafternoon and placed in the tomb before sunset.

what is the difficulty to understand that?

Simple how long was it between the 6th hour when Jesus was before Pilate and the 6th hour when it went dark?

24 hours long. Jesus was at Pilates one day by noon and was crucified next day by midmorning. The darkness commenced that day (crucifixion day / one day after being at Pilates) and lasted until midafternoon.

What?!
Jesus was arrested, tried, crucified, and taken down from the cross within a single day- the day of preparation, friday, on the 16th of Nisan A.D. 36.
He was set up on the sixth hour of the day, and taken down on the ninth hour of the day. total of three hours on the cross.

Steve if you check with Mark 15:25 Jesus was crucified at the 3rd hour that makes it at least 6 hours on the cross.

Please read this thread from the beginning and then ask God for the truth.

You guys should stick with John, who was an eyewitness.
And the pertinent time is JEWISH time, not Roman time. The Jews divided the 24 hour day into twelve hours of night, and twelve hours of day, with a new day starting at night. Jesus was crucified on the sixth hour- or noon, of the day of preparation, and taken down on the ninth hour, or 3 PM, as Jewish law concerning the Day of Preparation demanded.

Dont you read the Gospels? Jesus was crucified by 9am (3th hour) and died by 3pm (9th hour).

Jesus did celebrate the Passover the 15th of Nisan and arrested that morning. The Gospels describe a serial of long trials, including a presence of Jesus at Pilates by noon (6th hour). That was the day previous to his crucifixion by 9am.

Again:
Jesus was crucified at the 3th hour, that is 9am. You are wrong.

We can not stick to jhon alone, since all four are the Word of God and all four are eyewitness. You are wrong.

The day of preparation Jesus gived instructiond to Peter and Jhon concerning the Passover dinner witch they celebrated coming the night.
Jesus ended that preparation day alive and free. You are worng.
