  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well I used to be a Theistic Evolutionist but there are a few things that convinced me that evolution is wrong and that creationism is right. One of those things is the fact that the early Church fathers believed in a young earth and they also rejected the evolutionary ideas of their day. Believe it or not there were some ideas floating around during the time of the early Church that somewhat resemble modern day evolutionary theory. Another thing that convinced me is that in the Gospels, Jesus seems to take Genesis literally. I would like to learn more about that one though. :)

I've not seen such evidence. I'm not sure what PaladinDoodler is talking about.
Erm what is a theistic evolutionist? :p
Someone who believes in a deity and also accepts evolutionary theory. This group includes, among others, all Christians who accept evolutionary theory.

If you don't want to debate here, I'll see you in the thread I've created in the main forum.

Okay I'll check it out. Thanks for the invitation. :)

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that Theistic Evolutionists are not allowed to debate Creationists in this forum and Creationists are not allowed to debate Theistic Evolutionists in the Theistic Evolutionists forum.

Yes, that is correct. That's why I created the separate thread in the OT main board.

Paladin, you are quite right. The history of the theory of evolution is one of my interests. Evolution was called a religion long before it was called scientific. The belief in a form of evolution, i.e. life from non-life without a Creator, is very old indeed.

Cicero, the famous Roman orator, thought evolution ridiculous.
When you see a sundial or a water-clock, you see that it tells the time by design and not by chance. How then can you imagine that the universe as a whole is devoid of purpose and intelligence, when it embraces everything, including these artifacts themselves and their artificers?"

The oldest recorded "evolutionist" was a man named Anaximander (610-540 BC) who taught that "..originally, humans were born from animals of a different kind..." (ibid, p.73)

That's very enlightening, indeed. I've always thought of Evolution as more idealistic and less scientific than most evolutionists want to think it is. ;)

Thank you.

I do some research, i been thinking on how christ referred to Genesis, and i'd be inclined to agree with PaladinDoodler, that He seem to favor a literal interpretation of Genesis.

What convinces me, outside a the clear tenor of Scripture is
1. the confusion of the dating methods
2. millions of dead things in hundreds of layers buried quite evidently by the actions of a world-wide flood
3. The absence of transitional specimens in all the millions and millions of fossils
4. the level of salinity in the oceans
5. the preponderance of similar origins stories in dozens of disassociated cultures throughout the world.
6. Clear evidences of dinosaur/human contemperaneous existence
7. Being, existence, pondering, art, communication, self-awareness, the existence of anything points philosophicaly to an origin that cannot be conceived as anything, as AnyOne other than the uncaused Cause, by whom all things were made and without whom was nothing made that was made.
