That is a rabbit hole on your part. My point is the dangers of smoking was well known before JS was even born. Thus, it would be common knowledge when he produced the word of wisdom.

As I said in #11 it was not common knowledge that there was a cover up by the tobacco companies as was reveled by the word of wisdom. It is much like the revelation given to Joseph Smith about the civil war:

Why is it a sin to obtain truth from varied Churches of the day? If Joseph smith was inspired by the Cambellite doctrine against strong drink, to tell his members to refrain from Alcohol, surely thats a good thing!
Would we condemn the Reverend Campbell for getting his doctrine concerning strong drink from english temperance societies, not at all, we would say he was a wise man in doing so to prevent his members from being led astray by the dangers of Alcohol.
