Does anyone here remember reading "The Jungle" by Uptain Sinclair in high school. Seriously, though, if you can get past the thought of Jurgis in the meat packing plant, today's hotdogs are made to much higher standards than back then. In fact, the book was responsible for the creation of the Food and Drug Administration.
Perhaps the problem with hotdogs is they lack in the presentation aspect.
Cut the ends to form rosettes before cooking them. The roses will bloom and become all the more attractive when colored red with ketchup (yuck!) or yellow with mustard (yum).
The grilled onions sounded good, too.

Have you tried Fruited Curried Sausages (oops sorry you called them hotdogs)
Fry 500g Pork Sausages till brown, add and brown 1 sliced Carrot, 1 sliced Onion, and 1 finely sliced Apple. Add 2 tsp Curry powder, 1 cup Mixed Dried Fruit, 1 Tblspn Coconut and 1 cup Water. Cover and simmer 30 mins. Add 1 Tblspn Golden Syrup, and 1/2 tsp Salt, and thicken with 2 Tblspn Flour and water. Simmer 5-10 mins. Serve with rice.
(500g is 1 lb I think!, I'm not too good at converting metrics to ounces and pounds)
Hope you like it.

Just a few ideas off the top of my head:

Have some Sauerkraut? Cook some up and chop the hotdogs up in it or use the Sauerkraut as a topping on the hotdogs.

Boil some Ramen Noodles and chop the hotdogs up in it.

Slice the hotdog halfway through (don't cut it in half) lengthwise and put cheese on it. Melt the cheese on it in the oven or microwave and eat.

Slice up the hotdog in Macaroni and Cheese.

Grill the hotdogs if you have a grill available.

Chop up the hot dogs and mix them in with baked beans.

Make them into an Omelet.

I dont eat hotdogs just because it creeps me out a bit but Kosher hotdogs are great! They are really good and turkey ones :) Heres something i like

Take the biscuits you get in the can
Flatten each biscuit
Put small bite size pieces of the hotdogs in the middle of the biscuit put a little cheese and a small amount of tomato sauce.
Bake for 25 min
This is so awesome! Enjoy!
