I just finished reading Flannery O'Connor's The Violent Bear It Away. I definitely recommend it. If you're not familiar with Flannery O'Connor, it might be a little strange and shocking. But it's amazing!

Awesome, another Flannery fan! I love her.

HOwdy Hanney, I havent heard from yu for awhile.
I'm reading a book called Nine Parts of Desire" by Geraldine Brooks. Have you read this? I think you may find it useful to gain an understanding of the Muslim women's plights from a non-Christian perspective.

But what I grapple with is that we have nine parts of desire and men only one. It paints women as being the more highly sexed of the two sexes. I don't agree with this and think men are more controlled by their lustful advances and desires, not women.

I read that many years ago. It's an interesting book and worth reading, but take it with a grain of salt.

I would follow that book up with Internet searches for critiques. :)

Since Dawkins' positions are your own, then no doubt you'll enjoy interacting with a thoughtful response to those positions. You'll find an excellent critique here. To read them in order, scroll to the bottom post first, and then go up.

Thankyou - i am open to reading them. :)

I have of course some critisisms of my own. I don't agree 100% with him but many of his arguments he put cross are close to home. I think it is a well written book.

He also comes across as a decent chap which i didn't expect. Has religious freinds and respects people just not the beleifs.

Has anyone been reading any good books lately that they would like to share with us?

I'm going to start reading about the Apostle Paul (if I get some time).

Thanks:wave:
I'm going to study the writings of "John of Damascus" and "Josephus" to gain a better perspective of the situations there so I can have a better view on the Bible.
