Then again, especially for those living in the U.S., (officially the fattest country in the world, now), "thin" is probably what we should be aiming for. Our perceptions are based upon what we see all of the time. And with one in five people being, not just over-weight, but obese, our perceptions are probably a little bit skewed. So what we see as thin, might be just about right. Studies have shown that caloric restriction, (to a reasonable degree), not only leads to a longer life but also a healtheir person and a younger appearance. One can think of "thin" as meaning weak, but I think the ruling is in; and the ruling is that "thin" means both strong and healthy.canadiancarebear said:I also agree with someone who said that "thin" sounds weak. I don't like the sound of "thin"... I think it sounds extreme, but that's just me.
That wasn't rambling at all. I think you made some very valuable observations. Obviously, I don't make the same attempts as most others to factor God into the equation. But I think the outcome is remarkably similar whether you do or don't.2Bhumble said:I think God wants us to take care of our bodies. Does He love us less if we don't have the "ideal" body? Of course not. So what's the ideal body? I'd say one that's physcally healthy, strong, and as a result, has good composition (i.e. healthy weight). We've all seen the "choices" in what we decide looks good - We've seen very healthy lean fit bodies all the way to extremely thin to extremely overweight. We decide what looks "best" in our eyes and judge accordingly. We have a gauge on what looks good. It's true our culture has many many obese people. How do we know they're obese? We have guidelines to what a healthy person should look like (see above). Does being too heavy tell a story about your lifestyle? In most cases yes. Why wasn't the epidemic of obesity around 20-30-40 or more years ago? God designed our bodies to use food as fuel. We're requiring less "fuel" as technology is making our physical life much easier - work and play. Much of our body's fuel is made hi-tech as well. Junk food, processed sugar - again technology. If we had to eat protein through meat, fish or eggs, eat lots of veggies, fruits, nuts, cut back or eliminate processed foods, walk to get around, lift heavy things - I imagine our society, would have less obesity. Now it's left up to choice not necessity. OK, enough rambling...
