I never really did understand how prohibition happened, until watching this.
Is that the three part documentary? I've been wanting to watch that.
Yep. This is part 1. I think the other parts are on youtube too, and it's on netflix instant view. It's really interesting how prohibition was passed by a powerful social progressive lobby, and how most people supported it because they thought it wouldn't apply to them (just the poor blacks and immigrants), or at least not to their beer and wine. And then once it passed many people believed it was a ridiculous and immoral law and didn't follow it, turning many otherwise law abiding people into criminals. A very fascinating period in history.
