What are you US Christians going to do about this?

Americans represent 5% of the world's population but drive almost a third of its cars, which in turn account for nearly half the carbon dioxide pumped out of exhaust pipes into the atmosphere each year, according to a report.

Instead of getting all het up over other people's sexual gender preferences, how about actually doing something about slowing the global warming threat? How about parading with posters in car parks, etc. instead of harrying those you consider to be homosexual, or liberal Christians.

I am sick of finding threads over and over again about homosexuality. Don't you guys ever think of anything else?

I'm from Canada but I'm guessing our car to population ration is pretty similar. This is certainly something Christians should be more concerned with as we are supposed to be stewarts of the earth.

And all though I feel there is too much focus on changing the people OF the world, this kind of criticism likely will get people to ignore your post, and the seriousness of the issue.

I think it will be hard to completely reverse the population to car ratio. Unfortunately, infrastructure in American and Canadian cities was designed around automobile trasportation.

I think that what needs to happen is immediately start building up to replace fosil fuels with ethanol. ( I think there is confussion about what will be the best fosil fuel replacement... thus noone wants to pump up the infrastructure to provide any particular replacement) Not to mention forcing people to buy new cars, or do major work to get them working with new fuels.

Woah there folks. Not all Christians are called to do all things. There are Christians who are specifically doing things to help in our environment, but others are called to do other things instead. Just because someone speaks out against homosexuality or any other issue, doesn't mean they don't care about their stewardship of the earth. I think though where Maccie is confused, is that Christianity is about choices, not Socialism or Communism, where is where you will end up if you continue down the left or liberal path. I understand that the liberal option is to FORCE people to do as they want, but a Christian offers the truth and then allows a person to make a decision. The results of that decision will then only be reconciled with God. As for Global warming I have one question though. According to the recent global warming report, we find that the earth's temperature has raised to 1 degree higher than normal. If it were 1 degree lower would we then be afraid of an ice age? Also the report concludes we are currently hotter than we ever have been in 2000 years, what about 2000 years and 1 day ago, where it must have been hotter, and without cars and industries. Something to consider. There are credible scientist who don't hold to these findings. Just like there is credible evidence that disproves evolution.

Homosexual activity is a sin and that is why some Christians are concerned about the push to force people to accept it as normal and acceptable behavior.

You and anyone else are welcome to object to CO2 emissions and its effect on global warming. I personally have my hands full with the abortion/euthenasia/embryonic stem cell research issues and spend my time holding signs relating to those issues.

If you feel you have some right to judge Americans then perhaps you should learn more about our culture. We do not have car parks in the United States.

I went to purchase a new vehicle 5 years ago, and was totally shocked to find that the American car makers never did substantially improve the mpg of it's vehicles ....in the last 35 years!!!

I thought that the average new American made car would get a minimum of 30 mpg. This is not just a disgrace, it is a threat to U.S. and world security.

Sheep are going blind down near the South Pole, and in the U.S. people are getting suntanned through their shirts. Yes, they are now making UV protective shirts! Skin cancer cases are increasing in ever greater numbers as well. Our glaciers are all melting...fast.

None of this is due to 'natural causes' . It is due to exactly what the data in our atmospere is showing us.

This is mostly because because of American prosperity vs. the rest of the word. If Zimbabwe had the same economic machine the US has, they'd be producing nearly as much CO2 as the US.

But, the US does have some problems. The government subsidizes cheap gasoline, promoting the use of inefficient vehicles. Inept government policy actually punishes automakers for pushing more efficient cars over less efficient SUVs.

And, some people, especially among rightwing Christians, seem to have an anti-environment attitude and don't see anything sinful in the gluttonous waste of dragging around several tons of steel just to commute around town -- concerns of CO2 aside.

We park our cars in parking lots.

Your parking lots are our car parks. What are what you call car parks, then? And why do you think we have them and you don't??

Since the major of environmental clean up money and technology come from America I would say we are doing our part. Should we spend our time bettering the Kingdom of God, or providing the world a cleaner place to go to hell from?

The first statement I doubt, and in any case, I am talking what each country does for itself.

The second statement is a non sequitur. It is not an "either/or" situation. There are many "saved" people living in very bad situations. There are many "unsaved" people living without a thought for others or the future of the world.

As for the US "doing its part", did you not read the link I provided? If you didn't may I respectfully suggest you go back and read it. If you did, then I cannot understand how you can make the statement that "the US is doing its part".

i think you need to look to other source for the rise in CO2 production. I don't feel that it rest alone on the US. Let's look at what the developing nation in Asia are doing. China and India are using high sulfur coal to increase there production whereas the US is not. it is also up to the developing countries to clean up their acts.

Last year at The Detroit Auto show I looked at a Chinese auto, i was somewhat surprize to see that the car had no emission controls. How many car is China producing that is like this? In all my 1993 mustang V8 produes less pollution then a new Chinese car.

The other thing many people are hoping on the idea of hybread cars. in my line a work a hybread would not make it though a year. My superivsor has already proved that, he has had his hybread car in shop more then my 7 year old SUV. In fact at one time we had to rent a trailer to get the car back to the shop because no one knew how to fix the thing.

I have 2 cars but can only drive them one at a time...is that ok? I need it to get to work so I can provide for my family.

Sorry, but the guilt thing won't work here. And I am in no power to change anything or anybody and can't afford a hybrid (though both are well over 150K miles and are just 4 cyl cars.
