This one, yes. It was kinda required reading in my seminary class "Southern Baptist Heritage".

It is argued that Calvinism has been the predonimate Baptist position since the early 1600's. And all one has to do is to read any of the historic Baptist Confessions of Faith to see the Calvinist position spelled out in them. The oldest historic Baptist confession, the Philadelphia Baptist Association's Confession of Faith of 1742 is Calvinist. And up until the 1830's when "slavery" started to become an issue, all the Confessions of Faith were Calvinist. (i.e.; Philadelphia, Goat Yard, Sandy Creek, New Hampshire) When the Baptists formally split in or around 1835, into General and Particular, you start to see the departure from the Calvinist position.

It is farily good reading. If you want to review the issue of Calvinism as it addresses the SBC since Conservatives have re-gained control, you should get it.

Liberals and Modernists dispise it, (Calvinism) Fundamentalists and Conservatives embrace it.

As for myself, due to a recent discussion where I was accused of being wrong in saying we are justified by faith, I have been researching this topic (justification) and I am finishing up my notes, and should be ready in about a month or so to post it in the Baptist area.

God Bless

Till all are one.

Just finished, The Shack, The road, and started on Artic Drift. All three are NYT best seller fiction, but fun to read.

from what I understand The Shack is pretty heretical... it seemed that way to me when I read part of it... and this is the opinion of Albert Mohler, President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary... you can listen to a radio broadcast where he explains some of his objections here:
A Look at “The Shack”
just trying to give out a warning to my Baptist brothers and sisters to not get taken in by this piece of fiction...

I am reading numerous books on Hell... and on or against the subject of Dispensationalism, not that the 2 issues are related ;)

blessings,
ken
