Trump and his people had super-spreader events that were maskless and indoors.

I'm seeing a lot in your replies that are familiar to me. Like you folk, we also have had individual states plotting their own course through the pandemic. Like you, we have a small number of 'fringe dwellers' who either refuse to believe that the virus exists, or who see conspiracy theories around 'the government is cooking the figures'. We also have had outbreaks of infection after a period of lower numbers.
But we've achieved much better results to date, even when you take population difference into account. I think there are 2 factors at play.
One is that we have had strong, consistent federal leadership in combating the problem. I am no fan of our Prime Minister generally, but I give him his due on this one. His government has taken the problem seriously from the outset and has provided the necessary financial and logistical support to the states as required.
The other difference is the robust public health system we enjoy. Yeah, I know, "communistic", "socialistic", "nanny state", whatever. The bottom line is that people here have never had to worry that they wouldn't be able to get adequate testing and treatment and that no one here ever has to face financial ruin due to medical bills.

There are many Americans who simply believe that the death counts that are attributed to covid are not caused by covid, and just happen to be a person with pre-existing conditions who were likely going to die anyway with or without covid being a factor. This leads them to conclusion that the numbers are inflated and people dying from truly other causes are being counted because they just happened to test positive for covid too. The shutdowns, done at the state level, has caused a reciprocal affect where people think their liberties are being infringed upon. These people are yelled at and ostracized by other people who see covid as a real killer and who truly believe shutdowns are a viable option to stopping the spread. When the shutdowns show statistically to be a failure the first group feels confident in their position while the second group blames the "failures" on the first group because they didn't follow protocols and government suggestions.

Bottomline, America is full of people who truly believe the saying: dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery; and apply that saying to shutdowns and mask mandates. America is also full of folks who are opposed to this ideology as well. Just another example of warring factions. I'm sure y'all have that too though.
