ADVANCE WARNING: Sometime in the month of December I'm going to be posting a Kenny G song, just to signal what a cultural non-conformist I am.

I don't know, man. Back in my day, Fatty Arbuckle didn't sing about this kind of stuff. Okay, fair enough, maybe that's because he wasn't a singer, but Sinatra, Bing Crosby, they didn't sing about genocide. Shirley Temple didn't sing about mass murder-suicide. I don't know. Something about the culture quickly changed. Are we just more "open" to stuff? It could be that being open to stuff is a REALLY, REALLY lousy idea. I don't know.

Edit: At first blush, these two bands might not appear to have much in common, but please note:

  1. Both band names start with the letters JUD
  2. Both bands are into death
  3. Both singers are totally super gay

A few not so happy songs. The last one is so pretty and peaceful, until it turns to beyond dark.

Thank you Keith. One of my favourite Australian songs. I'm used to hearing the Eric Bogle version (Eric wrote the song) but Joan Baez does an excellent job with a fairly emotional song.

The song below is also Australian. It's almost replaced the current (and terrible) Australian National Anthem. The lyrics are almost a history lesson although you probably need to be Australian to follow them. If you count the number of references to dry rivers, drought, dust and heat you'll get some inkling of why we're the driest continent on earth.

I never much liked the 'for we are young and free' line. of the Australian National Anthem. Still most other countries have at least one line that is far worse.

I think few people who have not been there really grasp how little of the land more than 20 miles from the coast is livable.
