  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What are YOU doing?

I hope to be in full-time ministry. Quite possibly in cross-cultural (overseas) missions-work. Most likely in Asia, since I'm already here. heh.

Someone mentioned something about stability -- hmm.. That's something my (non-Christian) parents bring up. (And they don't even know the "Christian ministry"-slash-"missionary" part yet -- that's the kicker! They're just concerned that I'm not packing my bags to go back to the USA where I can build an IRA or pension or something.)

Stability - Jesus is my stability. He's my Rock! :)
(Plus, as I once heard a pastor say, He's got a retirement plan that is outta this world!)

Blessings,
-haya

Do you really think people are going to just stop making gasoline? What are they going to do with older cars then? Cars aren't the only things that run on gasoline. They all use the same stuff and airplanes certainly aren't any near hybred technology.
The average life span of a military and/or commercial airplane is 30 years (Some, such as Boeings B-52 are going on 60 years of service!)... well, there is plenty of job security as they're still building/testing airplanes that won't enter service for another 10. And at the rate they go through gas... well, an F-14 Tomcat at max power eats 300 POUNDS of fuel per MINUTE. Nobody is every trying to make "rechargable" airplnes on a significant scale.
And jet aircraft... sorry folks, petrolium companies aren't going belly up for many, many years to come! Jets run off the byproducts of refining oil for automotive gasoline (and will burn just about anything you put in 'em) and I'd say they've got a good 100 years before we stop using oil.

With that, I wouldn't worry about your career in the petrolium/oil industry too terribly much.

good point...I wonder how long it would take for the world's oil reserves to run out...at least 100 years? At least not in my lifetime...it was always one of those silly questions I've always wanted to ask. Like how long would it be until we destroy the earth completely? Or will Christ return wayy before that time. :)

I'm already married with one baby girl, I intend to raise her and also get involved with the church. My goals are simple. I'd love to go to Bible College.

Hey sweethearts, why would you want to work for oil/gas company when oil/gas seems to be dwindling? I'm even worried about my husband's job, he just works for a gas station, I keep worrying about the fact that gas prices are going up and up and oil *reserves* are going down and down.. but do you think there is enough stability for you to maintain a job there for your lifetime?

More than anything in the world, more than a job I would love or a job my husband would love, I would want job *stability*.. to know we were taken care of. We don't have that, and it sucks. I highly recommend making sure you have it :)

Blue Impluse I am wondering what gives you the idea that the oil/gas industry is dwindling. Macleans magazine just had an article about 2 monthes back talking about the "BOOMING" oil/gas industry in Alberta. My boyfriend works in Fort McMurray right now at one of the Oil/Gas Plants. They are expecting the amount of barrels of crude oil being produced to double in the next 5-10 years (I believe that is the right timeline). They have also recently found oil of the coast of British Columbia and are trying to find environmentally safe ways to get it.

I was just wondering, what everyone wants to do in their lives? Do you have any career goals in mind.....and how are you on track to achieve them? Where do you see yourself 20 years from now?

I am currently a Community Support Worker, working as a Program Facilitator at a day program for individuals with disabilities. I love my job and hope to be able to build on it. I am currently gettijg ready to take Signed English Courses and would one day like to take the American Sign Language Courses. I would like to have a group home or respite home of my own one day.

I'm currently in college majoring in English and Spanish. When I graduate, I plan to go to graduate school to get my Master's in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). Then I plan to be an ESL teacher at the high school level

So far all the best laid plans I made sidetracked somewhere between my 20s and 30. I am now 34 and have 3 beautiful children and back in school studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Tourism and Industrial relations.

So what I'm really saying is that best laid plans you make does not mean it is God's plans...He works in his own time and I just let Him take over..

Best of luck always for your future plans. 20 yrs from now I will be 54 (Oh my goodness) I'd rather not think that way ahead... I'll take each day as it goes..!

I'm married, raising my nephew, TTC and waiting for my citizenship. I see myself in 20 years, with a kid or two in school all day and me going back to my career of choice(Librarian) during school hours. Yep, I plan on staying home until my youngest is in grade 1, and yes kids are in our plans.

Some of my friends have very high post secondary education goals and plan on being in school well into their late 20s. I however have different plans. I want to be a mum, take care of my home, hubby & kids and be active within my church.

If my citizenship gets here before we get pregnant I'll work as long as I can, hopefully I'll be able to make it to 6-7 months pregnant before having to quit.

Earlier this year (as well as last year) I thought I was on the track of becoming an accountant. Math was my best subject, and it was easy for me. However, I went through a medical situation this summer (I'm fine now - can't start college till spring, though), and it brought me closer to God and also made me question my career choices. Right now, I'm not entirely sure what I want to do - but I know that I want to do something that will help others. I might go into medical research, ministry, even animal care (such as animal police - been watching too much Animal Planet, lol) - animals aren't people, but they are God's creatures. Whatever I do, it'll probably be something along those lines

I'm at work today (haha....I'm at work everyday).

Today's visual effects work includes tweaking an animated shot I did wherein the leaning tower of pisa is falling over, but being pulled back up by a flock of doves tied to it with ropes.

Also...I started my next shot this afternoon which involves a group of squirrels chasing a guy riding a bike.

I love animation! :D

I currently work 6 days a week, 8 to 8 1/2 hours per shift...at a commercial dairy. I like it there a lot, but I don't see myself staying at that particular operation permanently. I want a manager position, ideally...parlor manager or asst. herd manager for a 600-1000 cow dairy. 20 years from now I'd like to be a lot farther then I am today in the horse world...competeting and training dressage. Personally...I have no clue. I'm very happily single.
