  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well I'm doing salsa. I learned the basic steps (there's only 6 :p) and so now I'm learning how to spin the ladies and how to lead and be gentle at the same time haha. It's a lot harder than it looks.

But thankfully I have a good ear for music so I can stay on beat very well and my instructor was pleased about that. Last Saturday was my first individual lesson and tonight is my first group lesson so I'm kinda nervous but at least I'm ahead of my class.

Well I'm glad they taught you how to lead well. The fundamentals of leading and following often get thrown out the window by people trying to teach people steps ahead of those critical things.

When you spin the lady I assume you are talking about a pivot turn. That would be the next logical step after the basic in that dance. Be careful with this though, watch the lady's elbow, sometimes begining ladies forget to tuck it.

Group lessons are good cause you have to learn how to work with multiple people.

Although I have to say you arn't learning an orthodox ballroom sylabus. (Which is ok) But an orthodox ballroom sylabus wouldn't start you into any other dances such as salsa until you knew the basic 6 which are Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Rumba, Cha Cha, and EC Swing.

I know a little bit of salsa such as that pivot turn you learned but I'm not the best at it because its outside of my orthodox sylabus and havn't put much practice time into it.

Haha, thanks coach! Yeah, it's the pivot turn.. I don't know all the terminology yet... like the basic steps are the rock step and the back rock step I think?

I do plan on eventually learning all those dances but figure I should learn salsa since I almost feel obliged to learn it being Puerto Rican and all :p. Plus, I do like the music and sexiness of it all.

Yes, left foot forward, right foot back.

Oh and if you can figure out the rythm good then congradulations because you also know mambo. Same basic, different rythm.
