It's not confusing at all. You just have to read "Black" first because "Red" is the second book in the series.

Maybe it's Black that she got, because she got the first book. Anyways, she said it was sort of confusing when the person was switching between the present and future in the beginning of it. It was hard to get used to for her.

Gotcha. Maybe I'm just used to Ted Dekker's writing. I've read all of his other books and he's my favorite author.
