I'm reading a book called Triangle, about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in New York City, in which over 160 people died. Up until 9/11, it was the worst fire for fatalities in NYC.

But what is interesting about it is how the early American labor movement was able to use the tragedy in order to bring about changes in workplace safety that are still obeyed today.

Tailchaser's Song, by Tad Williams. It's about life through the Cat's point of view. From their goddesses and gods to their theory about the hairless man came into being. Tailchaser is a young cat who's girlfriend is wisked away by the humans, and so he plus a little kitten, Pouncequick, go off to search for her through several perilous places and felines.

It's rather a fun tale.
