Last night I finished reading "Heart of Darkness," by Joseph Conrad. It was one of the best books I've read in a long time... Very insightful... I'd recommend it to anyone. And it's not that long either

Another of the Tony Hillerman "Navaho" tribal police series. I believe my current selection is First Eagle (1998)

I don't do a whole lot of sitting down with a book anymore. My daily commute usually totals about 3 hours of my day, on a good day it's 2 1/2 hours and on a great day it's 2 hours. Conclusion - Books on Tape borrowed from the library are my only "realistic" reading.

I was greatly displeased with the incomplete sentences and racial bigotry. In order to cleanse yourself of this atrocious piece of fiction, I prescribe Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe.

John Owen's Biblical Theology (good, but not what I expected, I thought it would read like a typical Sys. Theology, but it doesn't, lots of history)

Paul Smith's Westminster Confession: Enjoying God Forever (for my teenage daughter who is also reading it)

Various commentaries on Romans, chapter 9 especially; Thomas Schreiner's volume in the Baker Exegetical Series, John Murray's in the NICNT series, Leon Morris in the Pillar series, Haldane's, all are great!

rereading select chapters in Schreiner and Ware's The Grace of God, The Bondage of the Will (excellent response to Open Theists in particular!!)

The Silmarillion by JRR Tolkien and The Name by Franklin Graham and the Bible. I started "Competent to Counsel" a while ago but that has been tabled till I can catch up on some other half read books.

The message of "Heart of Darkness" is what I was most interested in. Conrad uses the racial issues of his time to make his point. And it is a very good one. He is basically talking about how people are basically bad in their hearts.



And I've read "Things Fall Apart" -- didn't like it. There wasn't a great universal truth in it that I saw.. Sorry!

Thomas Hardy - Return of the Native - what a great bit of storytelling!
The Purpose Driven Life - less of a read than a study
A really "interesting" Biopsychology (think brain structure/function) textbook that I need to spend a lot more time in!

David Gemmel - i've just finished the 2nd book in the Rigante series, and am about to start the third book (cant remember the title).
Am also half way through the 3rd book of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, but have put it down and never picked it back up .....

I'm currently reading Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa. I have about 300 pages left (of over 1000). If you like samurais and stuff it is a must. The best samurai story ever told

I am in the middle of the 3rd book in Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth Series "blood of the fold" this series is my greatest addiction since the wheel of time!

Les Miseral, Victor Hugo- taking longer than my Bible, its so dragged out, but better written than anything else i have read

Of Mice and Men, -tragic, but very good. Makes you hate the human species.

Maggie a Girl of the Streets, Stephen Crane- just about the same.

Love's Labor Lost, Shakspeare- dont know, just started

I just finished Cerulean Sins by Laurell K. Hamilton, the Anita Blake series and started The Davinci Code last night.

Right now there are three books open on my bed. The Closing of the Western Mind by Charles Freeman, Songs of the ****** by Hunter S. Thompson and Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman. The Harry Potter books of course remain on the floor by the bed in case of emergency or need and the Poisonwood Bible has been in my backpack for days.

I am laughing hysterically... I must have three dozen books or magazines open on the bed, the floor, and next to the computer with another dozen out by the fireplace in the "reading chair". I have at least a dozen books "backed up" for reading over the next few weeks, mostly on archaeology, but some on Bible.

Right now, I am reading about all I can get my hands on concerning archaeology and Abraham, Iron Age II... that's a broad area... thusly... three dozen books or magazines open and waiting.

Now.... are you laughing hysterically?
