  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm currently reading Dean Koontz - Phantoms
Great book
Very eerie !

Until you find out what the cause of all the deaths is.

It's a rather Lovecraftian letdown. Horror writers seem to have forgotten that "nothing is scarier". If you're going to show or describe the monster in detail, it had better be AMAZING. Otherwise, just hint and suggest. The audience, as individuals, know what is scary to them; and what is scary to you, the author, may not be the same. Let the audience's imaginations do the work.

There, that's my Koontz/King complaint for this thread.

Hello to all, this is my first post.

I teach both Shakespeare and Children's Literature at a Thai university, and naturally I re-read the works I'm teaching. So currently I'm reading King Lear and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

The common theme of both works is, of course, that old men with long white beards can be very annoying to deal with.
