  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Yada Yada Prayer Group Gets Caught #5 of the series. I wonder if there is anyway that we could all start reading the same book and discuss each chapter once or twice a week. Any ideas on how that would work??

I'm currently reading 'Downsized' by Jill Wilkinson, but since you probably haven't heard of it, I'll tell you a little about it:

It's about John Sheppard, a worker at Ford who is suddenly laid off with thousands of other employees. As he is driving home from work, he's mugged by gangsters in a rough neighborhood. As John picks up the pieces of his life and tries to start over again, he learns the importance of relying on God and understanding that God has a plan for everybody. In turn, John grows closer to his wife, family, and friends as he works through his troubles.

It's a relevant read, I think, for people who are unemployed or facing financial difficulty. The best way to get a copy is to go to the author's site at wilkinsoncreations.com.

You all have some great book recommendations. Ssior.27...Twilight is one of my favorites, too.

Which volume?

I just finished Karin Slaughter's latest. As a literature snob, I really wonder why I bother - her books are like chaos theory turned upside down, it's like she's on the darn improbability drive from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - but they're just so addictive I can't help myself but enjoy them.

After that I'm back to Jeffrey Eugenides' Middlesex.
