I just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. It's mainly a story about life for women in Afghanistan. A great read! I almost feel like I've experienced their culture from the safety of my own home in America. From this book you learn a bit of the history of Afghanistan from the 70's to now. It was published in 2007. The man who wrote it was born in Kabul, so he knows what he is talking about. It's a novel though, so the history is woven into the story - which is how I prefer to learn my history. :)

Right now I'm reading EAT PRAY LOVE by Elizabeth Gilbert. I'm to chapter 17 of 108 chapters and I've already laughed and cried a dozen times. It's a good read.

I'm reading "To know a woman" by Amos Oz. An Israeli writer. I'm only on the 3rd chapter, so it's hard to say what the book is about, but it's about this peculiar retired Israeli spy or something who was recently widowed. Well the funnest thing is that I get to read it in the original, in Hebrew!

I just read Smith of Wootton Major by JRR Tolkien and I might reread Farmer Giles of Ham by Tolkien. I prefer farmer giles of ham over smith of wootton major. farmer giles of ham is more exciting and adventurous in my opinion. :)
