I liked "Little Women" too, I generally read it around Christmas time. My favorite Alcott book is "Little Men" followed shortly by "A Long Fatal Love Chase" <-- Very good book, was published after Alcott had died, seeing as in her day it was considered too 'racy' to be written by a woman, being the delicate flowers we are!

Nothing like the movie! It was good though I liked the detail the author went into, esp. concerning the valuble books and such.
Personally, I loved the pictures too. I'm an ink artist and the symbolism in the pictures I really appreciated.

Have you read any of his other books? If so, could you suggest any?

I thought The Fencing Master was good, and The Nautical Chart was ok. I'm curious to read his Captain Alatriste books, but I'm holding off for now.

On a somewhat related note, I highly recommend The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon if you're interested in other "biblio-thrillers"...

I just finished "Servant of The Bones" by Anne Rice, now I'm starting "Lasher" by the same author.

That's what I call them, at any rate... Thrillers about books = biblio-thrillers. I'm always on the lookout for more...

I will keep a sharp eye at the Library where I work, I know we have more. Oh...there's one.."Death of the bookman" or "death of a book seller" it's a mystery I believe.

On a somewhat related note, I highly recommend The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon if you're interested in other "biblio-thrillers"...

I really enjoyed that book! The idea of a Cemetery of Forgotten Books was just wonderful. Drop me off there and pick me up when it's time to go home!

I am reading "Divine" by Karen Kingsbury. VERY good book...but a hard topic.

I've read the first Captain Alatriste and really enjoyed it so go for it!

I'm currently re-reading Sorceress of Darshiva, which is Book 4 of the Mallorean series by David Eddings, and James Clavell's Shogun for the first time. The latter is hard-going - so many Japanese names to remember, along with all the alliances and betrayals etc.

Has anyone read Jasper Fforde's series about Thursday Next (The Eyre Affair etc)? Possibly my favourite books at the moment!

i have!! i've read all of the ones that are out right now, and i love them, especially the Eyre Affair. they are soooo funny and clever and interesting and well written! its like a classic literature lover's dream book. i've always wanted to travel into a book and meet the characters. i love Mr. Rochester!! the only thing i didn't like about the books was the swearing and "adult" humor(like all the parts w/ Thursday's brother Joffy); there was a little too much for my tastes. they're such great books otherwise; they really didn't need any of that stuff. oh well.

I love the part in &#8220;A Well of Lost Plots&#8221; where Miss Havisham gives the Wuthering Heights characters anger management counseling...
