'Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell' by Susanna Clarke, a sort of Harry-Potter-for-grown-ups novel, set in Regency times, about two magicians who are rivals, and both want to revive magic in England. Lord Byron and the Duke of Wellington appear as minor characters. Very enjoyable - thoroughly recommended. Fundies will throw up their hands in horror, of course, which is another good reason to read it. I intend to read all the Harry Potters one day, not least because fundies hate them. Anything fundies hate is fine by me.

I'm also reading 'Don Quixote' by Cervantes, in a modern translation by John Rutherford. Not bad. This year is the 400th anniversary of the publication of part 1, and has been officially declared 'The year of Quixote' in Spain, I recently discovered.

I'm reading so many many books it isn't funny, or fair to any of them really... but the main one at the moment is The Spy Who Stayed Out in the Cold by Adrian Havill... it's about Robert Hanssen the FBI spy guy. (hehe) I've read a very similar book a few years ago, so if it doesn't get a little more interesting soon, I am going to stop reading it.

I'm also about to start reading a book called The Shearer's Tale by Tom Molomby - it's about a guy who was wrongfully convicted of killing another man back in the 40s or 50s and he was sent to jail for 10 years or so before they started up a royal commission and they cleared his name. It looks very interesting... and I won the book as a prise, so that's even better. :)
