Are you asking these questions to the church body or to the individuals who attend? And are you asking these questions in conjunction to one another (i.e. blessed are the peacemakers...great is the reward for these people...so how do YOU feel about Iraq)? If that's the path you're taking, I'll just leave it alone. :)

I'm not real sure how to address the first question except to say that we like 'em. ;) They were Jesus' ethics and the virtues that God values, and, because He spoke them more than once, it was obviously a sermon that He wanted people to remember.

As far as salvation, we like that, too, and it's a part of many of our sermons. Though our pastor tends to preach salvation from a place of God's love for us as opposed to God's wrath.

The war on Iraq, well, I'm sure you'll find a wide range of opinions on that if you ask each individual. We pray for our soldiers and our world leaders...for protection from terrorism...we ask God's mercy and grace to be upon the whole situation...and we trust that He is in control and His will be done.

Beyond that, we don't force politics on anyone. There's never a mention of which particular candidate we should be voting for...there is only the suggestion that we pray for whoever it will be, that God's hand will be upon him as he leads our nation.

This is just my church...others may be (and probably are) different.

Still not sure exactly where these questions might be leading... :)

I agree with heatherjay. These questions are kinda broad. The interesting thing about these two denoms especially is that we tend to not make stand about things. That is why often times (especially the UMC) is considered wishy washy. (not my words please don't kill me).

UMC
We beilieve in salvation through Christ, we beilive in 2 sacraments (baptism & communion), we beilive that sacntification is more of a life journey than attainable here on earth.

Maybe ask some more direct questions and as far as the war in Iraq heather hit it right on the nose. Great job.

I haven't seen a Nazarene/Methodist church in my life so...

I also have some specific questions

What do you think about the sermon of the mount?

What about salvation?

What do you think about war? the war on Iraq?

--- already asked too much, sorry ---
I am a pastor of a United Methodist Church--I agree with the above posts--it is difficult to understand.
as to the sermon on the mount--too broad to answer
as to salvation--we believe in salvation (justification) through grace by faith in Jesus Christ, we do not as a denomination belive in OSAS
as to the war, we have somewhere around 11 million members in the United Methodist Church and about 11 million opinions

I think Methodists and Nazarenes follow the Wesleyan type doctrine don't they? I know some of them do. But do all of them follow Wesleyan doctrine?
Yes, all Methodists and Nazarenes are Wesleyan in theology, but there is also a specific denomination called Wesleyan. I think that's what Canadiancarebear is referring to.

yes, I was talking about the denomination, Wesleyan.
The name of this forum used to include Wesleyans and it doesn't now. I feel so left out! Just joking, hehe.
It still includes Wesleyans--that's why it is called WESLEY'S Parish!!! :D

There's a story I love to tell. There was once a man named Googoo who lived a very saintly and devoted man who consecrated his life to charity, prayer and theology. So when he died he was received by heaven in all its splendour and the Archangel Michael himself met him and told him. Well, chap as you know here in heaven you will develop a more intimate knowledge of God, so we have courses for that, but in your case we will put you directly in the advance class. So he was led to the tallest floor to a door which read T201 "God's Charity" although the room was empthy there was something written on the blackboard:

"James, Peter, John, Abraham --> C-"
"The rest, could you please rewrite your assignments?"
