how about the dixie chicks. young girls really like them. Their political views aside, they arent too bad. she might like "no doubt" but I would say that only their CD "orange county" is alright. their new music, in my opinion, isnt too great. If you go POP, i would go with MAndy Moore. Her lyrics arent bad. Pop-punk band RELIENT K are a good choice. They are christian but are very popular in the secular scene.

Johhny Rivers might be a good choice too. Also, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and maybe Clint Eastwood! hehe! :p LOL J/K about Clint Eastwood though IIRC he did do some singing before or around Rawhide.

Oh No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I heard that they are all bad influences:p

Thanks again, for all the ideas.

She's enjoying the Contemporary Christian CD's I got her for Christmas, but her birthday is in March. I might get her some decent secular music then too. I'd like to have an influence on the secular music she buys before her friends do.

okay, i'm trying to think from the mind of a 10 year old girl. there have been some great suggestions, but this is a 10 year old girl, and i don't think she can yet appreciate the likes of u2 and rem, i know i couldn't at that age. i think you should get her something pop, yet wholesome. i think the backstreet boys are pretty clean. i would stay away from britney spears and christina. maybe mandy moore or jessica simpson. i don't listen to pop that much, so its hard to give good suggestions.

yes, i personally hate pop, but i liked it back then, and i grew out of it. if you give her more complex non-pop groups now, she will learn to hate them and maybe never listen to them again. plus, i don't have the attitude that "it's pop and mainstream and therefore bad".

Edit to Add this: Actually, getting U2 "Joshua Tree" or U2: "All that you can't leave behind" would not be a bad idea. They are very easy to listen to, she may not be able to appreciate some of the other albums yet.
