When it asks me on an application what my Father's name is, I put The Almighty God instead of Ian. How long before they lock me up??

You may not get that job.

In the papal court of old, you actually had to reserve your job, years in advance. And jobs went to the highest bidder. It's like saying I pay $100,000 to work at Microsoft, when position X is vacated. So being seen to be a person of independent spirit is a bad move. Most employers want slaves.

I was led to believe that Catholics are a denomination of Christianity. I've spoken with some people regarding this matter, and they disagree. Any takes on this?

Eph writes...

They ARE Christians...they just have moved a bit too far off the radar screen in their teaching of the Gosple to their people...!

...BUT as of today...they don't deny that Jesus is Lord...they don't deny the Resurrection of Jesus Christ...so there still is hope for them...!

We are the original Christian Church. We trace the lineage of the organization all the way back to Peter, to whom Jesus gave the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. The Eastern Orthodox split off around 1000 A.D., the Protestant Churches began about 1600. Hope this helps.

Eph writes...

I see you have been lax in your studies of Early Church History...re double your studies in this area..THAT will clear up the misguided history that the RC's teach on this...!

Remember..V....if all you know is what THEY tell you about church histroy....You are not being systematic in your approach to finding out the WHOLE truth on the matter...!

You'll only have what THEY say is the truth...agreed...?

Are Catholic Christians? Yes. Do Catholics believe that Jesus is Lord and that He was sent to die for our sins? Yes. Do Catholics believe that Jesus rose from the dead? Yes. Do Catholics believe that He will come again to judge the living and the dead? Yes. Do Catholics believe that Jesus is God? Yes. [/B]

Eph writes..

AGREED....their CORE beliefs as of today are still sound to my knowledge....!

It's all the rest of the stuff they TAG ON to Christian teaching that I disagree with...!

Because it's based not on the word of God...but on "rulers" that came from within the church and pushed their OWN ideas on the people..AS scriptural..from God above..!

Thats where I part company with em...I'm not gonna follow along with anybody...any further than THEY follow Christ....!

I think that Catholicism can't be all lumped into one big group. (Yes I know Catholicism means universal) There are some sects of Catholicism that worship Mary, or the saints, etc. and these are the ones that get "picked on" (for lack of a better term). Catholicism teaching is a branch of Christianity... wait... or is Protestantism a branch of Catholicism?... that might confuse a lot of people.

This I can say though... not all Catholics are Christians... not all Protestants are Christians. Christianity is based off a belief in Jesus Christ, not a denomination or part of a church.

I am Protestant (Southern Baptist) by the way... just in case you couldn't tell by my post :D I think very highly of my Catholic brothers :)

Okay...enough is enough. I do think the original question has been answered, and now there's nothing left to do but debate or discuss...which this particular forum (Questions about Christianity) was not created for.

I'm closing this thread. If you'd like to discuss things that were brought up in this thread, feel free to do so in the appropriate forum. Thanks! :)
