My daughter has loved horses from early pre-teen years.
She was in an organization where they let physically challanged kids ride horses - the movement of the horses helped them learn to walk.
Try joining a club - riding club, horse club - anything to do with horses - join in - talk to the people, offer to help - after you get to know them - they will involve you and they always have extra horses and will invite you to ride.
Find out where the horse shows are - offer to help - they always need help. My daughter use to put on horse shows - there is a lot of help needed there.
They are very gracious people and will involve you - don't feel bad that you don't have a horse - you will make friends with people that will involve you. I saw it happen all the time and my daughter does the same thing and helps people who don't have horses.
Once you get to the place where you can board the horse out if you don't have a place for them - you can adopt them. My daughter is involved with one of the adoption agencies for Fort Worth - there are many way you can get involved and let your dream evolve - it does not have to be all at once.
If you would like I'll get my daughter write to you and maybe help you get involved somehow. You can still do it - it is not too late.

I remember how Jesus always had a way of explaining and speaking that never made the other person feel bad or stupid. I believe it's because He felt bad about having to deliver God's truth, warts and all. He showed love for us in the extreme, went out of His way to be kind. We could use that in some of these posts... and if anyone is feeling convicted, GOOD!

I'm not sure if your CF age of 29 is accurate or not, but I think of that age bracket as the time when God allows people to see hardship, and understand the plight of others.
He tends to let the idealism fly in the early 20's, and after that there are valuable and horribly painful lessons about life and society. I make it sound sadistic, but it's so important for us to be humbled in order to be more effective with others.
I agree that we need to keep working toward our dreams, no matter how little time and resources we have at our low points. Who you are and what you love drive the other things forward -- we work so we have time or money to pursue these things later.
If you lose sight of these dreams, then you lose a sense of self, and also sink into despair about life (even if it seems like despair is heavy now).
Hope deferred makes the heart sick.
An instance where people had to wait for their dreams -- read about the Babylonian captivity. God warned them they would have to wait to be free, but it took forever! And there was a lot of misery. But God wasn't sitting back letting human foibles play out -- He was still involved in the big picture.
And then there's Abraham, who became the father of nations when he was elderly. And Noah, who had instructions to build a boat long before the rain came.
This is your time of preparation.
I had a dream in my late teens that I felt God was prodding me to pursue, but it seemed like He was saying 20 years. Sure enough, the technology changed at 20 years, and what I felt I needed to do had changed to become more feasible.
Don't let your interests die, especially if others in your life push them out. Thay are part of who you are.

I probably hold the record for the student who took the longest to complete their college degrees.
Time, money, children, sickness, job responsibilities etc. lots of things to work around.

I see the child icons too -- being a parent takes an immense amount of sacrifice, and the first thing to go is usually the time and money to pursue personal interests. It's all about survival for a bunch of years.
You can bring this love of horses into what you read and do with your kids, and eventually they might lead you into opportunities through their own curiosity. It's funny how what we build in our children comes back to support us!
Others suggested getting involved in small ways -- you might even take on a stable job for a few hours a week, that would get you connected with horse people... usher at racing grounds, sell tickets at horse shows... there are tiny (humbling) things that can keep you connected to people and allow you to study the environment.

I don't think there is anything wrong with that...if it is in your heart then do it. If you cannot do it right now for family and or financial reasons, then keep yourself connected to it as much as you can. Find a way and plan to eventually make it a part of your life, your husband's life and your children's lives.
It may be years down the road before actually get to it and you may never get to go as far as you want to in it, but do it nevertheless.
