LK 11:27 As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, "Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you."

LK 11:28 He replied, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."

You should heed Jesus' correction of your error.

Terri,

Thank you for your reply to my series of letters.

I think you are mistaken in your reply, but if you will point out where I have erred and I will certainly correct it. Mary was the most blessed woman ever to live. There is no error in recognising that fact. In blowing it up and inflating it in such a way that it detracts from Christ work, than that would be an error.

THe Angels said to Mary, "And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women."

Elisabeth said to Mary, "Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb"

THere is no error in saying Mary is the most blessed of Women, but it can be an error if, like in the verse you give, there is an attempt to redirect our view from Jesus to Mary. That Is not what I was doing.

It's kinda like Paul slamming the Galatians for their wanting to add circumcision to the faith, but then Paul, after hammering the Galatians, had Timothy circumcised.

Was Paul inconsistant?
Did Paul contradict himself?

Answer: No on both points. THe Galatians' reason for circumcision was sinful. Paul's reasons for circumcising Timothy was not.

We could also look and see how the Scriptures deal with tradition. In some cases it is very negative and in others it is positive. It is all about context.

Dominus vobiscum,
Kenith

'most blessed among women is Jael, the wife of heber the kenite; blessed is she among women in the tents'...etc. cuz she pounded a tent peg into Sisera's head.

I like her so much i named my 2nd daughter after her: after all, she is the first most blessed of all women..

Judges 4 someplace, by the way. LOVELY story of God calling some chick to do something great & terrifying then enabling them to faithfully do it.

Amen. That is how it always works. It is God who makes us to both "will and to do His God pleasure." We can claim nothing of our own. All good that we "will" and "do" is from the Lord.

In Christ,
Kenith

& there were other 'most blessed of all women' in the Bible besides Mary the idol, who was neither the first, not the only.

(but no one thinks you were idolizing her, Cajun, you were jes being chivalrous.)

Thanks for mentioning Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite. I had forgotten that the title was used for her.

We both know "Mary the idol" is not in Scripture. That Mary was invented by men and has in some places replaced the Mary who was "highly favoured" by God and Blessed to be the Mother of the Messiah.

I am glad to know that "no one thinks you were idolizing her..." I just want to be biblical.

In Christ,
Kenith
