  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I don't know if you can exactly call it a "catch" when it's a stipulation they linked in an official X post and on their website

View attachment 355773

That's kinda like saying "The Christmas Toyota-thon event where they advertise "sign & drive" sounds great right?...but there's a catch, turns out you actually do have to arrange financing and make payments on the car and they're not just giving you a free car for nothing more than your signature...the nerve of Toyota to mislead people like that!"
I disagree with that comparison though I agree with the spirit of what you say.
Are AT&T, Verizon, Time Warner, Spectrum, etc... offering any sort of no-strings-attached internet package for victims of the hurricane? If not, then what Elon is offering is "30 days better" than the competitors.
Well they expect the deliveries to be weeks away, they are still having to front 450$.

Then they still have to pay the 120$ a month; much much more than Verizon atandt. Ultimately the consumer would be paying triple. IS the more reliable access worth that price? Up to the consumer. It feels like bad taste since 120$ over the life of that system seems like not a discount.

And yes, the world owes me group.
Instead of the me me me me me me group.
Start a fund and help out.
Volunteer.
I love your ridiculous preconceived notions of liberals. It's like an R.Crumb cartoon where a hippie has a monacle and a WWI German war helmet.
Liberals help out and volunteer all through the community all the time. And they do it gratefully and graciously and happily with the heart for it. And your on the sidelines yelling "baaaaaaaargle do what your doing!!!"

I disagree with that comparison.
Youll notice that "Sign and drive" does not say "free". So I'm not sure what your point is with that.

I don't understand the criticism of having to get a starlink terminal, because that is literally the only way this would work. Musk could ship those terminals to areas to distribute to as many people as possible as open w-lan areas.. and apparently, that is being done, according to the article in the OP.

Last week, SpaceX sent more than 10,000 Starlink terminals to North Carolina and other areas affected by Helene, according to The Hill. One Starlink terminal was planned to be deployed in each county.
I think that the plans should just end and not automatically be converted after the 30 days. That IS a slightly scummy move.

Are you referring to the ex-Twitter employees?
I think it is referring to the over paid Twitter employees who did nothing and served no useful purpose to the company. But in all fairness, a "living wage" in San Francisco is like 250k per year.

People in the path of the storm can get free Wi-Fi and internet usage from six top internet service providers throughout Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Florida.

The FCC has also expanded the Lifeline discount to victims of Hurricane Helene. Whether or not you were previously eligible for the $9.25 discount, you can enroll in the Lifeline program if you're receiving aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Individuals and Households Program.

Optimum is offering all current customers in North Carolina affected by Hurricane Helene one month of free internet service.

Optimum is waiving all charges for lost or damaged equipment and extending the free month of service to TV and Optimum Mobile packages as well.

Spectrum has opened 90,000 free Wi-Fi access points. Originally, the access points were slated to close on Oct. 7, but according to a spokesperson from Spectrum, the access points will remain available through Oct. 13. The access points are mainly located in public areas, either indoors or outdoors, across North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

Verizon is offering 24/7 free power and Wi-Fi stations in Florida, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee.

T-Mobile is offering charging stations and free Wi-Fi hotspots in North and South Carolina.

Opening up existing hotspots isn't really giving someone an internet package, unless they plan on living at the coffee shop.

Not familiar with Optimum (must be a regional provider)

Apart from this Optimum company, it sounds like they're all doing things that are "self-servingly altruistic" for PR.

Free Internet must really help if they lost their homes and everything they owned.

SMH.
It would come in handy to be able to talk with one’s insurance agent given that most of the cell-towers are probably all affected.

Dude him and trump laughed about it

What was the point of this video other than to prove that Elon Musk doesn't put up with lazy and entitled people working for him?

They absolutely did not laugh about refusing to provide a living wage. So please get your facts straight before you libel people.

why do you tihnk people strike usually? Because htey aren't paid enough.
Just because they believe they are not getting paid enough doesn't mean they are not provided a living wage. Which begs the question as to your definition of a "living wage."

How about the people doing the job do not believe they are getting paid a fair wage compared to those people making the decisions above them and they demand that they share the revenue since they are the ones ACTUALLY adding value to the company.

Sounds like communism to me. "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs." Tell me, if the canned Twitter employees were so valuable and to the company, why didn't the company collapse after they 80% of the staff were fired? The answer is simple, they were not adding value to the company.

Maybe switch your babelfish to a different channel then because the state owning the means of production has exactly 0 to do with workers demanding a fair wage.

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs."
Oh come on. You think musk and zuckerberg have 150BILLION worth of ability OR need?
Pull your head out.
Ridiculous.

What an incredibly perfect example to use! Twitter fires 80% of staff...

Value of X is about 70% of what Twitter was.

Good heaven's man....how could a human being living in North America NOT know how terribly Twitter is doing. It's both hilarious and perfect that you chose that example out of, certainly what would be many other much better examples.

I was quoting Karl Marx. You know?...the father of communism in his book about communism?

We are talking about Elon Musk, not Mark Zuckerberg. Please stay on topic.

It is actually 80% less of what Twitter was. Get your facts straight. Mainly because it went private and Elon didn't buy it to make a profit.
