  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What a GREAT parish . . .

The Neophytos ("Newly-planted") Fellowship is a new group for anyone young in the Orthodox faith to gather together and explore Orthodoxy and life together. This includes anyone who is:

  • exploring Orthodoxy,
  • in the catechumenate,
  • still relatively new to Orthodoxy, or
  • a cradle Orthodox who is newly discovering the depths of the faith.
The group will meet at St. Mary's fellowship hall on the second Saturday of each month at 6:00pm (right after vespers) for a potluck dinner and informal discussion with Father David. The introductory meeting will be on April 9th.

This is an incredible parish! In the mornings I can pray the Hours with others on Zoom. The usual liturgies and feast days are available to me (they were not at my old parish). There is a great fellowship after the Sunday Liturgy and a men's fellowship group.

I think this is an important group for a catechumen because of the need to lose Western ideas and develop an Orthodox phronema.

Neophytos ("Newly-planted")

Ah I learned a new Orthodox buzzword! :)

Kind of an interesting word, looks like it could be literally translated as something like "new natured" at least based on the study of that root word in relations to things like monophytism, miaphytism etc.
