ah. the CAPS LOCK arguments are COMPELLING. it's more LIKELY to be ABSOLUTELY correcti if you put CAPITAL LETTERS and sometimes evein UNDERLINE the words, or even MAKE THEM RED!

I think the stuff you are talking about is a different topic. we could discuss it in another thread, I'm sure.

Like the big pictures are any less of a statement.

Certainly let's not ENGAGE in the very truths you try to SEE.

do you even know what I'm saying with the photos? I seriously doubt it.

yes. This is the most insidious type of pride because it masquerades as virtue even to it's owner.
it is a contradiction!

presto chango.

leaders in the church "come as you are."

to leaders in the church "dress up so people will know you're important.".....

Well it seems that the difference between them and you is that they have devoted their lives to serving and helping their flocks, while you devote your time to insulting your fellow Christians.

I think I'll hang with the guys in the fancy outfits. I don't judge a book by its cover

mmmhmmm.

moving on to posts with at least an ounce of relevance...

Oh? What 'contradiction' might that be exactly?
the contradition of being proud of your humility. That is what Kristos and I were talking about.

So we blame men who wear tidy little outfits for wearing tidy little outfits and those who stand as rulers of neat architectural designs?

Is there actually some point to that?

I didn't anywhere assign blame. In fact... I think I stated that I didn't think anyone was personally responsible.

you seem to be just looking for a fight. Go do it with someone else... not interested.

So the false pride/humility was not 'personal?'

One might expect to bring up subjects they would actually be discussed and not spun away by false pretenses such as 'claiming a fight' that doesn't exist. ding

sigh.... you seem not to be following the bouncing ball very well.

one more time, and I will not be explaining after this.

Kristos mentioned this:

There is also a strange pride which presents itself as the standard of humility.

and I replied "you mean pride in their humility?

to which Kristos agreed, that's what he meant.

it was not levelled at anyone, nor did we call anybody such. We were discussing it's existence... nothing more.

now do try and calm down. I am not interested in you trying to correct me on a matter that you clearly are not on the same page as the rest of us.

yeah, pictures for examples sure aren't 'personal'

We were discussing it's existence... nothing more.

Oh, you mean its existence in the examples of pictures of people you used?

now do try and calm down.

Calm down? You mean for taking the fancy clothes off the demonstration?

I am not interested in you trying to correct me on a matter that you clearly are not on the same page as the rest of us.

Correct YOU? Is that possible? lol I'm just observing your own statements and saying that perhaps it's a little deeper subject than the mere smearing of priests and buildings and the supposed pride in their humility.

enjoy!

How could it NOT be?
simple. It wasn't stated that any one person was guilty of it.

the pictures were unrelated entirely. That discussion was seperate, and after the pictures. Do try and keep up.

Oh, you mean its existence in the examples of pictures of people you used?
no. And I never stated as such.

Calm down? You mean for taking the fancy clothes off the demonstration?
this sentence does not make any sense.

"Women in turn are to dress modestly and quietly in seemly garb; they are not to adorn themselves with plaits of hair, with gold or pearls or expensive finery" 1 Timothy 2:9 (MOFF)

Conversely I believe the opposite should be expected: A dress code that declares honor for the Lord. Enough of the slovenliness. Away with the shorts, T shirts, thongs, tights, raggy jeans, flip-flops and all else that speaks of disrespect for God in His house.
I thought dress that declares honor for the Lord was written:
...that women adorn themselves in modest apparel,
with shamefacedness and sobriety;...

But your version has it worded differently.

I'm guessing that He would look at one's heart
and conscience anyhow. Sunday I had put on
my new black capris and a black sleeveless silk
blouse. Since I dont have any black flats ... and
since I had to sing on stage (cords and other
things I could trip on) I wore my black flip flops.
They're adorned with mother of pearl and quite
classy (for flip flops).
I really didnt feel like I was dressing slovenly at all.
I hope your post doesnt get into anyone's heart
and defile their conscience.
Doesnt it say that God doesnt look at the outward,
but rather at the heart?

My thoughts anyhow.

it is.

John Climacus spends almost half of his chapter on pride in "The ladder of devine ascent" on this type of pride or false humility.
Sounds like an interesting book.
False humility is pride yes.
I still remember the day that I heard a sermon
about it on the radio. Had I not heard that sermon
I might not have even realised I was guilty of such.
Tricky little nasty.

Yes, it is and with reason.

I'm guessing that He would look at one's heart
and conscience anyhow.
Would He find holiness and respect or indifference, carelessness, ignorance, perhaps?

Let me ask: If you knew you were going to actually meet Him, would not you change a few things about what you wore? It isn't so much a issue of what you believe how He views us, how do we view Him? Does He not deserve our best, all honor, glory and our respect? I have seen more than I care to and will never darken the door any church that cheapens God in anyway; attempts, to bring Him down to our level. He is not my buddy. He is my Father.

Since I am also not in favor of a worship team as such, as supposed we need, the wires being a necessary obstacle, both would be removed if I were the pastor.

Sorry Sunlover, They are my thoughts, being one who has come up through the years and who has seen the good, bad and the ugly; one who has seen the decline of worship in the church; worship that has been substituted out for entertainment.

Do you remember what the priest had to do before he when into the Holy of Holies in the OT? Why did they wear bells tied to the bottom of their skirts? Did not God know his heart?

I apologise if I offended you in anyway, but that was my heart. . . . ))
