What I mean is that we have used a denominational specific icon (The UMC Icon) to represent all of "Wesleyanism." I don't have an alternative to offer, and I didn't at the time the icons were created. I voiced my concern and let it go.

There are two reasons I don't wear a "Wesleyan" icon:

1) I really do prefer wearing the "Christian" icon. To me, it is far more important that I be identified as a Christian than anything else. I found the mere "Christian" icon the best choice.

2) Since I'm not a member of the UMC, I don't really want to wear their denominational logo as my icon. I think it's confusing to other members who know what that icon is, but may not realize that the UMC is part of a larger tradition known as Methodism or Wesleyanism.

The problem we're faced with is this: Both Methodism and Wesleyanism are appropriate names for the tradition/movement that God began through the work of the Holy Spirit in John Wesley's life. However, both of those names are also names of denominations today. Regardless of what we choose, we run the risk of causing people to feel excluded by our title.

I feel that "Wesleyan" is a more inclusive title. However, I'm sure that some of my Methodist brothers and sisters feel that "Methodist" is more inclusive. (Note: I'm not even bringing Nazarene to the table, for that's not inclusive at all...it is a term that really has little to do with Wesley and more to do with Jesus the Nazarene).

Does that make more sense?

Peace,

WJ

I totally understand and respect where you are coming from. As far as which is the more inclusive title, as a Methodist I personally would say Wesleyan is.
I was going to use just a "Christian" icon, but around here "Christian" is a non-denominational denomination (if that makes any sense) and lately I have been having a bit of trouble with some points of doctrine in the "Christian" church we have been attending. So I went with the Methodist--it is more of who I am. If you were to ask me face to face I would tell you I am a Christian and Methodist is my chosen way of expressing, studying and growing in my walk of faith.
As to the forum name--I'm still quite stumped. Maybe "Wondering Souls" from the hymn "Where Shall My Wondering Soul Begin"?

Maybe this thread should be redone as a poll (Using the most given reponses {strangly warmed, holy club....) and colse it in a month or so and use the highest voted on name because it seems (much like Christians and denominational differences) we are not going to come to a concensus.

Can a non Wesleyan make a suggestion?

I love Wesley , he was a true fisher of men .

He said "The world is my parish"

I think "Wesley's parish " might be good.

(pss did ya note I am not shy?

God's best blessings to my Methodist and Wesleyan brothers and sisters

I like both The Upper Room and Grace Place. Grace Place is my favorite.

Okay... been thinking about this some more. Grace Place stands alone for me. No denominational names will be mentioned but I grew up in a behaviorally legalistic Protestant church, switched to a theologically legalistic one in college and finally 12 or so years ago found the Methodists and GRACE

Hey there! Great idea. In fact, that's the plan. On Sunday, TCapp is going to give me a list of the front runners, and then we're going to make a poll and leave it open for 10 days.

Nobody's aiming for complete consensus, but we are looking for some names that we could all get behind. So, right now, we're asking members to tell us what their favorites are, TCapp is tallying, so we can know which ones the front-runners are. Make sense?

Grace and Peace,

WJ
I understand now. Thanks sorry about confusion. Good job on doing this though and I am sure a great name will be cosen. :D

I'd like to make two suggestions regarding the voting and selection of the forum name:

1. Hold two rounds of votes. The first round is likely to have many selections to choose from, so I'd suggest taking the top three from that first "thinning" round and using those in a run-off election. We're in no rush for time, and this ensures that many more people feel vested in the final selection (otherwise we could pick one winner out of twenty that recieved only 6% of the votes).

2. Post frequently between now and Sunday (when the first round of voting starts) the current list of nominees. After the poll starts is too late to make changes or corrections.

Speaking as a cradle Methodist who found a home in Anglicanism (following John Wesley's instructions, I might add!;), I really like "Strangely Warmed" -- but it occurred to me that you might coin something new: "The Internet is my parish" ;)

I don't think we can split votes with the poll system!
Umm, actually I think I have seen a couple polls posted on CF where you could choose multiple options. Don't know if that way would be more conducive, or less conducive.
