Water! Water! God has given it to us so plentifully we underestimate how precious it is and its worth. Were we in the desert and was tormented with thirst we would consider water priceless. Many travelers passing through the desert came upon wells without water and were turned away disappointed at finding only parched emptiness. In passing through lifes wilderness have we not come across wells without water? In this life have we not often been diappointed? How many enter into business and anticipate success? They have a will and they work, work and work. But their efforts have all been" wells without water!" On the other hand, many have succeeded in business, but the dark shadow is there. As far as happiness is concerned , successful business men have found that mere earthly possessions have proved "wells without water" They found in their fame little or no satisfaction. Some may say," we do not aspire to fame." That maybe true, but do we find excitement in other ways? Is happiness being looked for in the attractions of society, or in any amusements of the world? In all walks of life we find " empty wells." They are on all sides of us. We see persons standing, thirsting, and unable to quench their thirst, looking with disappointment written on their faces, into " wells without water." You have met individuales who were cold, hard, and selfish. They live merely for them selves. They are smart but they have a heart of stone. Not one word of sympathy escapes their lips, and there is no look of pity in their eyes. When trying to make appeals to them it is like ' dropping buckets into empty wells,"
which would certaintly grow old in drawing nothing up. Then there are some who attempt to build wells. They dig deep, they pile one charitable action upon another. They exercise the greatest self-denial in careing on their task and when it is done they find their labor was in vain. Another of the " wells without water." But there is a well of Living Water, with joy you can drink from " The Well of Salvation," a well were the thirsty can drink to their hearts content, and thirst no more. I say "Amen " to that.
