• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I propose we ALL PM Erwin with the following message, "What if we promise to be good?" Note: this is intended as a lighthearted remark and in no way do I actually intend for anyone to do this, as I actually enjoy being a member of these forums. I, for one, am actually sad to see the IDD go. I think the good that came of it outweighed the bad, but the basis for its removal is sound. I just wish that the threads that had already been opened in it were still available for viewing at least. O well.

I support the decision after reading Erwins comments here:

Basically, from now on, if members of different denominations want to discuss doctrinal differences, they have to do it in a Formal Debate manner. You now have to research your topic properly, post your arguments in a coherent and structured manner, and allow the other person the time and opportunity to reply in a similar way.

This way, we hope that relationships between Christians are not damaged by unstructured debates which do not achieve anything other than splitting up brothers and sisters in Christ even more.

There is nothing more frustrating than someone coming off half-cocked spewing nonsense and others believe it out of ignorance. At least now those that want to challenge the Church will have to do so in an intelligent manner and we can respond likewise without getting bogged down in moronic discussions.

This is a good thing guys. No more Catholic bashing in there. If people want to ask questions, they need to come here (on our ground) and they have to be nice and respectful.

More will be accomplished this way.

This is a good day at Christian Forums.

I agree with Erwin's decision and that of the staff members. IDD, used wisely and correctly would have been of benefit to many, but threads without antagonistic posting were few and far between. If non Catholics have something to say, they now get to come direct to the source of information(so to speak), if flaming or trolling ensues, the posts will be removed by our own mods.

Equally we can now venture into other forums and continue to endeavour to post respectfully.

I also think it was a wise decision. The rampant anti-Catholicism that routinely took place in there was shameful. I say good riddance. A formal debate format would be much more productive, as well as more respectful, I would think. Of course, some of the everyday, garden variety anti-Catholics probably won't want to engage in a structured, formal debate. I know I have personally extended two invitations to formally debate, neither of which was accepted.

Cause they know they will need facts, and they have none. The quick one-two punch of "the pope is the false prophet" won't work.

Exactly. Unsubstantiated, inflamatory personal opinions will not go very far in a formal debate format.

How do any of you feel about the Sexuality and Christianity forum also being closed. I think we could easily say CF is going through some troubles right now with 2 forums just wiped out. I still think CF is one of the best forums out there though.

Why? If people have questions about our faith, I would rather them ask it respectfully here then to go on the attack there.
Jeff, God give you Peace.

There are many reasons for my thoughts, but I truly see no point in voicing them and this is probably not the proper forum to voice them anyway. Besides, I can only see it leading to a heated discussion which I don't have the time or desire to be part of.

Suffice it to say that I am very saddened and disheartened at the removal of IDD. Will it cause me to go away from CF ? Probably not. But then I'm hardly here anyway.

God Bless,
P12

I'd say "It's about time."

I think we could easily say CF is going through some troubles right now with 2 forums just wiped out.
I don't think CF is going through any trouble. Just a periodic re-assessment of where CF was going, as opposed to where it should've been going. IDD and S&C run counter to CF's message, so they had to go.
