I have a friend whose name is Jarod. Jarod is a firm Christian. His mom used to be a weak christian until she "fell in love" with a man named shane. Shane has convinced her of reincarnation(I'm not sure what else) and they have teamed up against Jarod in debate and tried to mock and humiliate him. To me, it seems horrible that by the two people that matter most in his life, he is being attacked for his religion. It is so sad that it is hard for me to imagine. He isn't the best at debate but I hope that he will become better. I'm not yet convinced by christianity but it is clear to me that his beliefs deserve far more merit than the beliefs of his mom, and probably soon to be step dad. Anyway, you guys have any advice I could give to him or prayers you could offer to God I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Yea that is tough. This happens a lot for christian teens that don't live in a christian household (not all). I would say, just continue to be there for your friend and listen to him when he needs someone to talk to. But he's got God's strength so, no matter what happens I'm sure he will make it through.

I might not have crucial facts here, but if they believe in reincarnation, what's the harm in letting him be a Christian? The most that could happen in their view is that he is reincarnated again. Either I am missing something crucial or they don't seem to make a lot of sense...

Tell Jarod to ask his mom this: what is your definition of love and how does that justify the way that your are mocking your own son? And why should I believe anyting you say after the way you have been mocking me?
That should be enough to send a signal to his mom. If it isn't, then tell Jerod that his mom has stepped on the trail of deceit, and that her actions will seep her own rewards. Tell Jerod then in that case to shake off the dust and move on.
There is no excuse whatsoever to mock your own son and even try to humiliate you (or him, whoever) like that.
They obviosuly don't know the truth, so if his (or your) faith is strong enough, than do your best to provide them with the truth. Remember that God always prevails.

It's not that their beliefs conflict with Jarod's. It's just that they think the ideas of Christianity are ridiculous which to me is outrageous because your comparing a religion that believes in one divine God to a religion that believes in "enlightnement" and past lives. It is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. They also criticized something about the number 7. If seven is the number of completion. 6 is the number of evil. What is everything else. Anyway, I know its hard for him.

any religion I know of that adheres to reincarnation would not try to humiliate or mock another person. So if anything this joker sounds like he's into some kind of pseudo-spiritual enlightenment. Rather than adhere to any kind of doctrine of humility he just likes to make fun of other people in order to feel better about his own self.
This really sucks for the poor kid though.
He's not alone. I know a lot of people who live with parental units who do not believe and some of them catch some hell for their faith.
1. He should avoid arguing with people who have no interest in listening. it's a fruitless waste of time. I will dare to say that this appears to be the case. All the "grown ups" are doing are tearing the poor kid down. That's sad. There's no need for that, concerning religion or otherwise.
2. prayer is more effective than anything else. He's young. One day he will be a bit older and full of a bit more wisdom. Until then maybe his mission is to just get through this and pray for his mom.
Perhaps his peace, humility, and perseverance will show who is truly "enlightened."
