Here's my thing. There was a board. People posted. Christians mostly argued with each other and even started threads. It wasn't meant for that. It was meant for non-Christians.

Maybe my head has been buried in the sand for two years, but I'm not familiar with Christians mostly arguing with each other. That was few and far between, as I saw it.

I could be very wrong, but the reason I think GA closed down is because of the mud-slinging back and forth, as well as the blasphemy that was going on.

I personally reported several people for VULGARITY, and now I see people suddenly talking as if GA was a nice family-oriented place to post, except for a few exceptions.

The exceptions were the clean threads, not the bad ones --- and it was getting worse.

If I had children, I would not have let them view GA.

Ah, well, I didn't come to GA during that time, so I have no idea what it was like or not. This board is an obvious replacement for the former Questions by Non-Christians board. All of my comments are referring to that. It's disappearance coincided with the appearance of this new forum.

ETA: I only just now noticed that GA has gone away completely. I am slightly perplexed as to why.

ETA again: Seriously? If this were just a forum of more lax rules as a replacement for the Q by N-C forum, then it makes sense. However, as a replacement for the GA forum as well? Really? Vulgarity and blasphemy rules aren't that difficult to get posters to adhere to, one simply enforces the rules as posted (fairly). But to take away the exchange of ideas seems a bit... hmm... Debating isn't my thing, but it helps some people work through things. People will get over it I'm sure, but CF keeps going through these constant changes all the time.

Oh well, non-Christians. It's not like all of us are really allowed a true free exchange of ideas either. Orthodoxy isn't quite accepted here defacto like evangelicalism. Their board, they make the rules I suppose. C'est la vie.

I just wonder how many of the people complaining about "deconversions" (whatever that means) because of GA also believe in "once saved always saved". Just thinking aloud.

Whatever one's interpretation of Matt 25:10 I don't see how you can say someone "deconverted" if they were never "converted". One could, presumably, say "not all the converted are saved", but that would take one to all sorts of 'interesting' conclusions.

And a good thought, indeed --- I also ask them about turning their backs on this, just to see how they answer:

4 ... once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

Most of the time, if not always, they'll admit they have never experienced that; but they'll fall over backwards boasting how they deconverted.

No, it doesn't --- a mature Christian knows not to build his doctrine on parables --- this passage is much more direct ---

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

They will also make a distinction in initial sanctification, progressive sanctification, and final (or complete) sanctification (a.k.a. glorification).

My experiences have always pointed to Christians leaving the Christian faith due to treatment by fellow Christians, not convincing and logical talking points from non-theists. If staff truly wanted to eliminate a forum that causes strife and confusion over a person's Christian faith, they should have left GA intact and done away with the Theology forums. Look at the Debates on Homosexuality forum. They made it CO and still can't get away from mean-spirited attacks.
