A majority of writers on here, maybe. I know plenty of writers who don't talk to themselves while writing. We sit around in a square-like circle of couches, armed with laptops and possibly headphones. The keyboards click, Within Temptation and Sonata Arctica play at varying volumes in the background....but no talking. I've talked to people about how they write alone in there rooms. You know what? Still no talking.
It still seems the majority of writers do, though.
I know it was meant to be a joke...but I didn't find it very funnyI think it was a joke...but hey, what do I know?
I was working on my novel last night when my roommate had a friend over, and they were really loud, watching YouTube videos and laughing and shouting and whatnot. I had headphones in and I forgot about them, and I started voicing Gabrielle's thoughts to get them in order, and...yeah.
She's already arranged a new roommate for next year. But ha! So have I

I lived in perpetual ignorement of my roommate all last year, and this year I have a much better roommate. She's a good friend, a fellow writer....and lives next door
I suppose....though I never talk to myself, I am (generally) constantly talking to other people and getting their thoughts on my piece. I can hear my characters in my head well enough for my purposes too.
Sorry - I'm trying to defend my not-talking-to-myself-habits

lolEh...I'm sure not all writers talk to themselves. I probably only do it because I talk to myself even when I'm not writing. I was coming back to my dorm with my lunch just a few minutes ago, and I didn't realize I was talking to myself about avocados until someone came out of one of the stairwells and looked at me weird. (It wasn't that random. There were avocados on my sandwich. But still.)
I know a lot of writers like to eat while they write (from what I've heard, anyways.) Personally, I hardly ever do. Maybe I'll snack if I've been starving, but eating meals over the apex of my plot? Nope. I can't do both. I don't know why, but every time I try it, I end up either letting the food get cold while I develop the antagonist or going looking for the ranch and forgetting about the people's revolution.
So yeah...![]()
I don't purposely eat, but if food is within arm's reach of my computer, it vanishes. I have no idea how. Actually, food in my room vanishes. Entire packages of Ramen have been cooked and eaten....and I don't remember any of it.
After about an hour of writing I go into a trance-like state.Yeah, Ramen's a sneaky little fellow. Triscuits are little pixies...can't hold onto 'em for more than a few minutes!lolI don't purposely eat, but if food is within arm's reach of my computer, it vanishes. I have no idea how. I don't know what I do when I write. I've "woken up" 9 hours and 15 pages later not knowing what was written on the pages I completedYeah, Ramen's a sneaky little fellow. Triscuits are little pixies...can't hold onto 'em for more than a few minutes!
I can work for hours on end, but only if I leave time for various space-outs. Like, if I stop to think, I may snap back into it twenty minutes later having made no progress. But then I can get back to it until the next...blackout? Would that be an appropriate term for it?![]()
