  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I was never sarcastic or disrespectful toward you, nor did it ever enter my mind to be; in fact, those are the last things I would be in a discussion with a fellow Christian. Yet even with your most recent reply, you have again completely mischaracterized both the tone and content of my previous post. This is my final reply on this thread. With all the honesty and sincerity in my heart, I very much do wish you all the best.

Yes you were. You may not have intended to come across as disrespectful and condescending, but that's what you were. You misinterpreted everything I said as a defense of murder and torture, and then you shoved it down my throat with neat little barbs like "Do you have any idea what..." or "Let me tell you something...." and then go off on the Salem Witch Trials for the umpteenth time. I'm sorry if I came across as rude, but again, you can't dish something out and then refuse to take it.

If this is your final reply on this thread, fine. I'm sorry I offended you, even if you aren't sorry for offending me.

Hmm, so what does everyone think about getting back on topic. Granted the debate was interesting for a while, but now it's just getting ridiculous. You both have your own opinion and IMHO they are both equally valid.
Just like any other group in history; (Wiccans, Christians, Atheists, Communists, etc.) Puritans did some good and some bad things. The Puritans get a bad rap because of the Witch trials, which where an atrocity I agree completely, and they also severely mistreated the Quakers, but that is not the only things they have done in history. The actions of a few (or even the majority) of people in a group should not disqualify that there has been some good done by the group at one point.

Of course, like all things, there are exceptions to the rule. The KKK, Nazis, and various other groups had little if any redeeming qualities. However, that is a debate for another time and place.

Now that that is settled, can we get back on topic before this thread is locked.

One interesting thing I've learned is that when it comes to a fantasy setting, there are many "Excepted" ways to write a story or race, but there will always be a few authors who don't write that way.
Not every author I've read, writes there elves like the High Elves of Celtic Mythos or Tolkien stories and not every Vampire story creates the race of Vampires exactly like Stoker. Fantasy has to be my favorite genre, just because of the freedom it gives you.

Weird Things Unearthed by Research - Court Edition!

This was from my research into the Nuremburg Trials:

Just reading the list of crimes the defendents were accused of took all day long.

Chairs can be very important, the American alternate judge threatened to quite if his chair wasn't the same as the presiding judges.

Shoelaces, belts, and other string objects were kept away from the defendents lest they try to hang themselves. They missed one. Robert Ley hung himself with a towel.

Apparently, argueing that your client is already dead and can't stand trial is not a valid defence. Martin Bormann was tried and sentenced to death in absentia. Years later they found his remains - turns out he really was dead when the trial began

I write pure, original fantasy, so my research is done in my brain. One weird thing I’ve discovered is that my imagination is a vast, spooky place. If I had the resources, I’d make a movie in which a writer finds himself inside his own imagination. It would be a dark forest crawling with wolves and monsters…and worse. The challenge wouldn’t be to find a bestselling novel lurking in there, but just to survive. It’s probably been already done a million times; I don’t watch enough movies to know. Anyway, that’s my contribution to research and weirdness.

One interesting thing I found out from research:

The Middle Ages were not a good time to be alive. Floors were dirt, clothes were handmade, food was grown or raised, and very few people were educated. Royalty didn't fare much better, what with cold, drafty castles and and disease threatening them just as much as the peasantry. After researching the Middle Ages, I decided that they would be a crappy setting for a fantasy novel and decided to opt for a sort of pre-WWII era world, technology-wise.
