weird question about reading the bible

this is a strange one. sometimes when I am reading the Bible I don`t think I am reading what is written. For example I was reflecting on some reading I did, most recently Acts and Gospel according to Luke. I remember reading a verse that said ( I can`t remember exactly) something like `... we are in His mind...``. For some reason I think it was in Acts but I can`t find that verse anywhere. Does that verse exist in the Bible or am I reading things are are not actually there?

One thing for sure, we ARE in God's "mind" 24/7/365. Lots of books in the Bible point to that truth. I recommend reading everything from Acts 9 through Philemon for starters! What an assignment!

It could be either. But the concept of us being on God's mind is squarely scriptural. In the sermon on the mount, Jesus said even a sparrow can't fall to the ground without the Father knowing. In fact, I see that is mirrored in Luke 12. So your mind apparently engaged in drawing out the principle involved, and that principle is affirmed by many other verses, such as God so loving the world that He gave His only begotten Son. Don't be afraid to draw conclusions from what the Bible teaches. You don't have to be a literalist, just remain grounded in the Word and open to the Holy Spirit's corrections.

And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.” -Matt 13:52​

i think maybe you missed what i was saying. the printed words were different. i can't locate what i read. it's not there. it wasn't being on God's mind, it was more being in God's mind. As in our reality is His thoughts. There is no external God; we are internal. There is nothing outside of God; outside meaning spacial.

The word of God is sure:

Psa 19:7 The law of the LORD [is] perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD [is] sure, making wise the simple.
Psa 93:5 Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, for ever.
Psa 111:7 The works of his hands [are] verity and judgment; all his commandments [are] sure."

It will not change. Not even if we want it to.

His thoughts are so far removed from our own thoughts, that it literally re-creates our mind and our own thinking processes to be exposed to it. This is called "renewing our mind."

The Bible tells us suffering is involved in this process.

From this side of the screen I cannot tell you if some evil power of darkness might actually trick your eyes into seeing words that aren't there, but in my experience things really don't work that way.

I make the VERY STRONG suggestion to simply READ the Bible, and get it IN you. Many weird things may happen during that process, and the quicker you can get through it the better. Think of it as bathing in the word - totally immerse yourself in it. Sometimes it gets hot! Soak in it, and let it soak in.

You will emerge new. And better

If you're remembering verses in a manner that doesn't line up with the character and nature of God as revealed in scripture through Christ, then that means that your mind is under demonic attack/influence (all of our minds are engaged in battle - you're just being tested by the enemy regarding the truth).

One thing you may want to invest in is purchasing a "Strong's Exhaustive Concordance" of the Bible to look up verses; you can access it as well through sites like Blue Letter Bible - Home Page Strong's lists every single word in the Bible, lists all the verses that feature that word, and then provides all the Hebrew or Greek meanings of the word. That way you can look up the passage to make see if you're remembering it correctly.

It's not in the Bible.

In fact, that idea is incompatible with Christian belief -- it's an idea associated with Monistic schools of Hinduism. A core belief in Christianity is that God created a universe what was not part of Himself.

The Bible hasn't changed. If God "reveals" something to the reader, that "revelation" must be consistent with Scripture. God doesn't lie. If someone comes to believe something that's not consistent with Scripture, that person misread, misunderstood, or isn't remembering correctly. The devil may be involved, or it may be something as simple as our humanity getting in the way.

As was stated by a previous post, Christianity (i.e., the Bible) teaches that God is separate from His creation.

I listen to a different translation on audio, and sometimes jump up with "eureka -- now I understand' -- but then go to look in another version, and it was just a sloppy translation.

Reading different words than what is written happens all the time. How often we catch them can be a sign of our understanding of scripture or how closely we're paying attention. When I'm in the zone, I'll often read something and think, "wait, what??" then go back and see that I read the wrong word. However, if my mind is tired or I'm not familiar enough with the passage and/or context, I probably read right through those errors without even catching them. Usually, I try not to read anything mystical into the mistakes themselves.
