• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Alot of pysch meds, antidepressants can be among those increase a persons appetite. Often when people are depressed they may comfort eat more than they normally would, and are often less active so hence the weight gain

see post three

Its not that the meds cause weight gain, however they do increase your appetite, and as is often the case when on is depressed, we tend to comfort eat and do less exercise, which leads to the weight gain

Have you ever tried to look up side-effects of your particular medication, or type in the name of your medication along with "weight-gain" in a search engine? There are several medications that people complain of gaining weight on. It just may be how your body is reacting to that particular drug. Some doctors and pharmacists are familiar with most side effects and some are only familiar with the main side-effects of a drug. Try to look up your particular medication on-line. It might be the best bet to your answer.

I am on Seroquel (300 MG) and I went from about 120 to 190. You just constantly feel hungry.

I was always known as a skinny guy so when I went back to school everyone was shocked. I tried to turn it into a positive by making fat jokes about myself, which got a laugh and made me feel good. But I am still 192 and it's sorta weird.

What are you on? Wiki it, and I am sure you can find whether a side effect is weight gain. I know Effexor causes weight gain.

Eek! My weight gain has been huge! I'm now up to 301lbs - this has been over about 10 years. I'm currently on Effexor and Amilsulpride and i'm a lot better now, but yes, i admit, that the medication plus the depression has now left me with a big weight problem. Prior to getting ill i was fairly slim - my weight has basically doubled.

But i'm glad to hear that other people haven't had this problem - my diagnosis was psychotic depression and i think antipsychotics can be notorious for weight-gain, so this could have been a major factor.
