  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This thread is mainly for my own accountability. Not looking for advice or anything, but encouragement or your own stories are welcome :) I've got one month until my wedding, and dang it, I need to lose SOMETHING before then. Ten pounds down would be great, but I know that may not be possible, so my goal is to get as close to ten pounds as I can. I'll post my progress here, cause making it public will honestly help motivate me, especially since I am not allowed to lie, lol. And I'm not going to post my actual weight, just how much I gain/lose :D

So today is day #1! 30 days to go :cheer:

Good luck!

I'll tell my story (as I have before), but it might not help you, from what I've seen Don posting on FB. :D

I have lost about 100lbs. I lost 50lbs when I was in my mid-20s, but gained back 25lbs within about a year or so. The last 75lbs was lost starting in 2009 and a couple of things helped me. I counted calories, tried to get out and exercise 5 days a week no matter how nasty it got outside, cut sugar way down in my diet, and had a good attitude (like not being too hard on myself if I slipped on one of my weight loss methods or congratulating myself when I did well or just having the determination to know I could do this). The calorie counting and attitude were probably the main things. Oh, and when I say "exercise," I mean strength training and not just cardio. Without supplements/drugs, most women will not bulk up from using weights. Weights are great for building muscle, burning fat, and helping reshape the body. I love weights (and other strength training) so much more than cardio exercise.

If I can help at all, though I know you said this wasn't for advice, let know!

For some reason the "quote" feature isn't working for me...

Woven, thank you! My plan is to cut/count calories, and avoid junk/snacks, and eating after dinner. I lost about 20 pounds in 2010 by doing those things, and I just slacked off and stopped trying after a while (shameful, I know). I didn't gain the weight back, thank God, but I haven't lost anymore, either. So I know that that works for me, and I just need to bite the proverbial bullet and DO IT.

H - of course I want you to share your story, and I welcome all the encouragement I can get :) And CONGRATS on such an amazing weight loss, that is truly phenomenal, and I hope you can keep it off for life.

Congrats on your wedding :) The hard part is keeping the weight off once you've lost it though.

Thanks for the congrats :) And I don't think ANY part of weight loss is easy, lol. It's all "the hard part" if you ask me. I tend to be impatient and impulsive in my personality, so it's doubly difficult for me to buckle down and work at it steadily and long-term. But I know in my brain that the only way I'm going to succeed is by doing just that. It's up to me to find the gumption to do it.

I eat small meals all through the day, that keeps me from binging later.
I try to eat something small under 200 calories every two hours.
That combined with exercise seems to help.
:cheer: Good luck!

I'm trying to fit perfectly into a bridesmaids dress right now, so I'm on the weight loss track too.

Though it will probably be easier to lose weight after the wedding ^_^

You can DO IT! I know you can! :)

My only word of advice (ahaha, I know!) is to be careful not to DRINK your calorie limit. Watch out for those pesky drinks!

 You will do this! :D

Also, two pounds per week is well within reason, so 10 could be POSSIBLE. Get it, girl!

Thanks, Sara :) I learned the first time I cut calories, just how many you can "sneak" in with drinks! I stick mainly to water and diet soda now (and I TRY not to have too much of the latter lol).

You can do it! If you eat helthy enough you won't crave junk as much. :) And don't be too hard on yourself. My wedding was right after christmas which sucked since I'd completely forgotten that I could really watch my weight a little... :sorry: And after all the chocolate and sweets and christmas food I did fit into my dress but I felt all the time that it might tear apart any second LOL. xD Which did make me pray a bit more hard that day though, that God would spare me from the humiliation of being naked in church ha. :D

Thanks Aino, that's very sweet of you :)

Thanks for the encouragement, everybody!

So today is day #2... and we are down .2 pounds :) Not bad for the first 24 hours, right? As long as the number keeps going DOWN, that's what matters!

Lunch today will be two small hard boiled eggs, two low-fat cheese sticks, a small cup of potato salad, and an apple.

Also will be taking two 10 minute walks during my work breaks.

Thanks, guys. Unfortunately, the scale didn't budge this morning, lol. :sigh: Today is Don's birthday, and we're going out to dinner, so I'll TRY to have a small lunch lol. And I'll take my walks, cross my heart!
