Why is there this huge assumption that if you get married that all of a sudden the threat of STDs and pregnancy just magically vanish?
That hinges on the idea that you and your partner are faithful and COMPLETELY ignores the fact that there are diseases that can be transmitted sexually but can be contracted via non-sexual means. Also it ignores the fact that you still need SOME kind of contraceptive while married to prevent pregnancy.
A wedding ring is NOT a magical device that will protect you no matter what happens, it isn't a license to be stupid. You still need to protect yourself.
