  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I think you should ask for a trial first, Microsoft normally gives 15-30 day trials on their software. Frontpage is a very basic program to create webpages, but again it all depends on what you want to create.

I use Dreamweaver and it is kinda difficult at first but once you know it, it is very user friendly.

I struggle a bit with Dreamweaver, it doesn't seem to be as intuitive as I was lead to believe. Or it could just be me. I hand-code in Notepad, graphics in PaintShopPro.

I understand FrontPage generates a lot of MS proprietary code which can be a headache. By all means try a few freebies and trialware and decide for yourself.

:) OK, ya got notepad handy... :)

If you have an extra monitor or two to run all of these wonderfull apps in separate monitors, you'll appreciate Multimon

Evrsoft 1st Page 2000 was the first html editor that I used after notepad. Now, for the most part notepad has been replaced on my comp by UltraEdit-32. For ftp, I used CuteFTP until I found Filezilla, which is a fast and reliable FTP client and server with lots of useful features and an intuitive interface. Match Head converts RGB values to hexadecimal values and can match any color you have on your screen. It has one of the cutest\funniest usage agreements that I've ever seen on a program installation. It's post-cardware. Flash from Macromedia is pretty cool\expensive... SWiSHmax does 95% of what Flash is capable of, yet is much easier\cheaper to use.

When you're trying out a bunch of new software, it's a good idea to have at your disposal, some good registry cleaning software... unless you like digging through the registry that is. Norton SystemWorks includes WinDoctor, it's pretty good, catches alot of stuff leftover from uninstalls. A couple others that you might want to give a spin : RegSeeker 1.35 and TweakNow RegCleaner. If you're on 9x, you'll run across ram depletion, RAMBooster 1.6 will help with that. Even if you're on XP for that matter...

MEDIACHANCE has a few tools that I really love : Real-DRAW Pro, Multimedia Builder, DVD-lab, not to mention their other Free Tools.

:) Hope it helps :)

In regards to the above mentioned software, Evrsoft 1stPage 2000, I don't recommend this software to anyone and try to steer people from it - there is a fake js virus embedded in the setup file - and to me that is just NOT cool.

You can read more on it here, or do a Google for 1stpage+virus - you will get loads of info backing up my claims: wise-old-man.com/help1stpage.htm

And for the topic at hand, this are my tools:

Photoshop is my ultimate tool hands down.
Fireworks for animation and image optimization.
Then Dreamweaver for nested tablesets.
Notepad or VI for coding HTML and CSS.
WS_FTP for uploading.

My setup is as follows

1) Apachie & MyPHP & MySQL running on the system so I can program PHP based code and view it live without Uploading it to the real server
2) EditPlus2 ( http://www.editplus.com/ ) Little Better than notepad :)
3) Macromedia (Love the Live editing of your site)

Used frontpage for a while, but it puts in so much garbage that I gave up on it.

I use HTML-Kit, Scite, and VS.NET *, and occasionally ASP.NET WebMatrix. HTML-Kit I use mostly for working out layout, because I can switch between preview and source quickly and instantly see my changes. I use Scite when I'm doing small changes on a few files. I use VS.NET for full-on web projects, esp. when they involve ASP.NET.

*I only have v2002 ATM

Namo WebEditor is an inexpensive page design and coding tool that has all the simplicity of Frontpage without the headaches (and has some really nice embeeded table functionality). It also includes automated uploading and publishing via FTP or filesystem so you don't need to do it in a separate program.
http://www.namo.com

For you programmers and coders who end up doing a lot of administration or data screens to do, try http://www.codecharge.com. It is great for PHP screens and also does .net .asp and .jpg pages very quickly for add/delete/edit records.
