  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We support Bishop Mulvey and pray for all.

The two feasts were made into one when the new liturgical calendar came into effect in 1970 .
Is that something you remember personally? I can't find any history on it. There isn't any mention of there ever being a feast of Corpus et Sanguis Christi that I can find. Not even in the CE. Interesting.

I finally found more info on wiki:

Until the two feasts were combined in 1970, separate feasts existed for the Body of Christ, held on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday, and the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, with a feast on July 1. And until 1955, the Feast of Corpus Christi was followed by a privileged octave. Some groups continue to use those earlier forms of the Roman Rite and the corresponding calendars: see General Roman Calendar of 1962 and General Roman Calendar of 1954.

Thanks for finding the info .

I was going from memory and the fact that the full name for the feast is the Body and Blood of Christ .

Also in this week's UK Catholic weekly newspaper The Universe the feast is referred to as Corpus et Sanguis Christi .

Well, seeing how I was only 6 years old when that change took place in 1970, I missed it. I found it odd the 1917 CE didn't have had some mention of it.

Hey that's my Bishop!!!

Lol, I'm from Rockport, about 30 min. from Corpus Christi and he presides over the Stella Maris Catholic Chapel that I attend in Lamar, TX

So you can bet I support him, :D

Awesome. Why is Stella Maris called a Chapel and not a Church? Size?

I think it's just the name, but it does only hold about 50 people; 70 at the most...

Interesting. I wonder how large a chapel can be before its called a Church?

Is the Chapel in its own building or is it in a larger building?

I've actually been to some mission Churches that were smaller than other Chapels I have been in but they were inside other buildings while the mission Church was its own building.

Nah, it's just a tiny chapel in the middle of a small community just outside of Rockport called Goose Island

Is there a Church near and does a priest live there? Sorry for all the questions, I'm not familiar with how a Chapel opperates on its own like that.

There is a large shrine called Schoenstatt that's near there. but it's mainly for church retreats and stuff like that. I know the Shoenstatt sisters live there, but I'm not sure if Fr. Ralph does...

Fr Ralph is the priest for the Chapel? Does it have a parish office and a Bulletin and all that? Or does he just come in from somehwere else to say Mass?

I think he's one of the rare priests that have their own place, as close as i am to him I don't know much about his living arrangements...

and no we don't have a bulletin or an office. Fr. Ralph is just known as the priest in charge :D
