This is also a call to all those in California to support the redistricting proposition put forward by Ah-nold. The current legislature has an approval rating under 30%... and has for a while... but the current districts guarantee reelection for nearly everyone.

The political system is punishing moderates and creating an artificial support for the more radicals of both parties. In fact, this is probably the biggest reason a third party does not have much influence. Rules need to be changed, districts need to be redrawn, and people need to feel confident in voting for more moderate politicians.

What third party would have an ounce of influence if every district was competitive? The large part of votes that they get are out of relatively non-competitive districts, as in the competitive districts it seems a lot more the nature to vote for the lesser of two evils.

What California really needs is less legislative power in the hands of voters. California is largely ungovernable already due to all our myriad propositions. Why bother having representatives and Governors at all since we vote for every damn thing already?

We'll take Bernie Sanders in exchange for Winston Peters and Peter Dunne.

You will have to include a few billion in cash (American) and you first round draft pick for the next three years.

How about you just take Bernie Sanders and we call it even?

If the representatives actually represented the people I might agree with you. As it is, they don't... and need to be removed and replaced by people who do.

In California there are no 'competitive' districts.

Can you be more specific? As in, how are you not being represented? If you just mean I want a representative who agrees with me, then that's your problem, not the government's.

Frankly, I think we need more liberal politicians. I'm tired of the right-wingers saying the right wing needs to stay as far to the right as possible to "energize their base" while left wing politicians need to move to the right to appear "more moderate." I think liberals need to be more liberal to energize their base. Many people are discouraged that we have two parties: The ultra-right wing fanatics (Republicans) and the slightly right-wing fanatics (Republican-Lite, otherwise known as the Democrats.)

I agree - I wish liberal Democrats would speak loud and often.
