  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We dont exist, do we?

Single Consciousness

I was thinking, because its impossible to get something from nothing...(thats when there was nothing, not now when there is something, and creating something from nothing in something...yes is possible...but creating nothing from nothing in nothing, is a different story.)

--------- Something from nothing -----------

--------------------------------------------------------------

Now the logical response to this is "Something did not come from nothing, Something Always was..."
However, mathematically, always being is impossible, except in only ONE case, which will be explained in my theory

anyway here's why

If something existed forever, it has existed (negative) infinity years (just a measurement of time in this cause, because its infinite, it could be seconds, minutes, hours, light-years).

Now lets pretend that that entity is a person, or GOD perhaps (except NOT god, because some argue that God exists outside time and that's a whole other arguement).

Here comes the whole cause and effect theory. If the being so much as blinked, it would cause the idea of living forever as impossible. Blinking would be an event. Now imagine a timeline with this event.

(1.negative infinity)<-----(2.Being's place in time)-----------------(3.the time that the being Blinks)-------------->(4.Positive infinity)

Now the being exists in the timeline from 1. to 3. think of that as -infinity to 0 on a real timeline...That means the being would have to travel infinity number of years to even get to the event where he blinks. This means he will NEVER be able to reach that event.

To put it simply, imagine the person is on a escalator, Once he gets to the top he can blink, But he can only travel up the escalator at the same speed it is going down. So he cant ever reach the top, and cant ever blink.

So logically, nothing can exist forever, BUT, here's the interesting part, they cannot exist forever ONLY if they perform any sort of action.
So they only way something can exist forever is if they do not perform any action.

(Just on an extra note, its not that the being COULDN'T perform an action, but rather, if it existed forever, it COULDN'T ever REACH the point where it did the action...)

----------------------------------------------------------

----------- Are Thoughts Actions? -------------

--------------------------------------------------------------

Are Thoughts Actions....hmmm now there's the question.

I have no answer for that....I would have to say no, because otherwise there is just no way that we can exist. Here's my reasoning

The entity I was speaking of above could be anything, a person, a rock, an amoeba, an atom, or just pure energy. It could Also be....a Thought? If it is a thought, perhaps a thought of a universe, maybe it isn't performing an action, maybe it is just being.

So now we can finally get into my actual Theory on just How life originated, and i hope you now know why i call it the "Single Consciousness Theory"

Here We Go

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok So lets recap...Existing forever is impossible, unless you don't perform any sort of action. A Thought could possible be considered an entity in itself, that requires no action, due to the fact it IS its own action.

So this Thought is the universe that we know.

This Thought is in turn, the GOD that most of the world believes in, the creator.

We exist inside this "thought" and not in the way we believe we do.

Its actually starting to sound alot like the matrix right?

Remember what Morpheus said? "if real is what you can feel, smell, taste and see, then 'real' is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain"
Now what if your brain is just part of this thought. That you were connected spiritually (for lack of a better word) through this thought.

This brings up the Question as to What is Reality?

The chair im sitting on when i write this, the butt that is on that chair, the computer im using, you, the people reading this....Are we just one Thought?

That brings me to our brains. I "KNOW" that i can think, is it for myself? am i making my own decisions? i don't actually KNOW that. But i can say that there are thoughts in my head and i can interpret them. As for you people...do you have individual thoughts? Or are you just figments of my brains own thoughts, am i unintentionally telling you what to, creating my own world.

Now obviously i dont know if you have individual thoughts, and we can NEVER know that. If you say "Yes i have my own thoughts", is my single consciousness just telling you to tell me that?

Lets say we do all have individual thoughts, That means we all make up the ONE Thought. Which makes me believe that if we act as one, we can manipulate the world we live in. Change it to our will, because we are.....our own God. Because we are all one, EVERYTHING, not just people, but plants, animals, rocks, the sun, the stars, the universe, are all just a single Thought. We are the thought.

Hmmm.....

It doesn't make sense to ask how long it takes to get from negative infinity to anything, because negative infinity (like infinity) is not a number, so you couldn't use it in a measurement of time. The argument doesn't really work in the way that you want it to, because it all comes down to how long does it take to get from point a to point b, but point a isn't a point at all. If something is eternal and has always existed it does not make sense to ask how long between something analgous to the beginning of its existence and a certain action, since it would not have a beginning at all. We can ask the distance in time between two points in its life, but in that case we don't run into a contradiction.

Douglas Adams brought up in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that the average population of the universe is zero and that anyone you meet is the product of a deranged imagination.

Basically, the universe is infinate, but since not all planets are inhabited, then only a finite number of planets could be said to be inhabited.

Any finite number divided by infinity is as close to zero as makes no odds, so the entire population of the universe can be said to be zero.
