Hi paul,
Hope your plumber can fix you up, but you're likely to also need some drywall work done if there's water coming out under your baseboards (that's what we here in the states call your skirting boards). Couple of things to check, if you're so inclined. Is your faucet operator plate caulked in good? We had water leaking into the basement from our shower in a house that we recently bought and found that whoever installed the shower operator failed to caulk around the face plate and water was just running behind that plate like a river, down the walls and through the floor into the basement. Five minutes and ten cents worth of caulk and it's been dry now for over a year. If your shower is tiled, and especially if you have just a shower pan with no tub, you can get down on your hands and knees and check for small cracks or missing bits of grout between the tiles. Also look for any broken tiles.
However, if the water is literally running all the time from under your baseboard then you may have a busted line. I once had a pinhole leak in a water supply line and you generally have to break out the drywall behind the shower, which may be in a closet to repair it without tearing out all your tile or shower surround. If there's any way to get to your supply lines from the backside of your wet wall (that's the wall that has all the water supply lines in it) it'll be a lot cheaper than tearing up a tile or otherwise waterproof wall of your shower. Drywall is cheap to fix if you're into DIY stuff. A sheet of drywall and some joint tape, a knife and some compound shouldn't cost you over 25-35 dollars. It's really not hard work to do, but does require a small amount of expertise to do a good smooth job. Then, of course, you'll need some paint.
Anyway, just some things to check if you want. Hopefully the plumber can fix you up without putting too much of a dent in your wallet. Those guys usually want at least $125. just to come out. Let us know how it goes.
God bless you,
In Christ, ted
