& was Biblical tithing in the form of food?
They tithed produce from gardens, vineyards, orchards and fields. They tithed the animals of their flocks. They tithed money they earned. Joachim Jeremias wrote the chief priests sent agents to the threshing floors during the grain harvest to make sure they were paid. Priests of lesser rank complained the chief priests were taking tithes that should have been directed to them. Jesus received donations, but did not collect tithes. I think Joachim was quoting Josephus, but am not sure as he also quoted rabbinical sources dating back to the first century BC. He wrote, "Jerusalem in the Time of Jesus (1969)."

For the Gentiles as well but the rate should be about 3%, and not 10%, because Moses was like the head/President of the Jewish government and the high-priest of the Holy Tabernacle of God.

In comparison, a German Lutheran earning $50,000 Euro annually have to pay 20% government tax plus 8% church tax, which are withheld by his/her employer = abusive taxation and tithe. ...

Mostly yes = for the sustenance of the property-less priests and Holy Temple of God.

Abraham was a Gentile and set the example of how we who are in Covenant with the Lord Jesus, are to conduct ourselves.

8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.” 9 So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham. Galatians 3:8-9

For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, 2 to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being translated “king of righteousness,” and then also king of Salem, meaning “king of peace,” 3 without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually.

4 Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils. 5 And indeed those who are of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment to receive tithes from the people according to the law, that is, from their brethren, though they have come from the loins of Abraham; 6 but he whose genealogy is not derived from them received tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. 7 Now beyond all contradiction the lesser is blessed by the better. 8 Here mortal men receive tithes, but there he receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives. 9 Even Levi, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, so to speak, 10 for he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him. Hebrews 7:1-10

  • Even Levi, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, so to speak, for he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him.

Before their was the first Jew, Abraham paid tithes, demonstrating for us a pattern of excellence, for those who serve our Lord.
